THANKS Alexander! I needed a USB - A -> USB - A cable to connect an Apple Tv 4 with USB - C port and USB - A converter, I had only USB Male - Female cables but I got one USB - A -> USB - A from those following you guide! Still THANKS!
Hey, next time use a lighter or a candle to heat up the plastic isolation on the coloured wires you need , and then just pull it off with your fingers when it becomes soft enough. Much easier process, but watch out not to burn your fingers because of the high temperature of the isolation and wire.
Safer way 2 strip ur wires without slicing ur fingers with a razor blade is 2 burn the wire with a lighter about 1/4 of an inch back from the end, then pull off outer coating between thumb n forefinger using thumb nail 2 drag outer coating off and...fast,simple,less blood loss!
THANKS FOR THE DIY VIDEO. I HAVE A COOLING FAN THAT HAS GOOD MOTORS AND A BASE. THE PLUG IS BAD. I THINK I CAN FIX IT NOW. I HATED TO THROW IT AWAY. IT IS HEAVY GUAGE ALUMINUM AND CAN STILL WORK IF I CAN GET POWER TO THE FANS.
So is this a usb splitter or what? Like, could I plug two flash drives into the ends and hook it up to my computer, or use it to plug in a mouse and keyboard at the same time?
Indeed. I did get some unexpected behavior, though. I tried it twice. Both flash drives lit up for about a second each, then turned off. One time, my computer made the "device connected" sound. The other time, it did nothing.
I'd like to suggest a possible improvement to your design: If you add a 100K resistor to the minus wire (black cable) and add a bypass wire to the shielding (ground cable) before the resistor than any excess current will be diverted to the ground and prevent overloading your circuit. An illustration of this design can be found here: www.pinout.net/connectors/Y_OTG_CABLE.png
Hi mate. Thanks for sugestion. Now I know what 100k for. I have a question. I found another schematic here android.stackexchange.com/questions/29168/can-sony-xperia-ust25i-s-otg-be-connected-to-external-power As you can see 100k has a switch. What for? Also I can see 220k resistor and diode between GROUND and Vcc+5V Do you know what for?
Alex Mag Hello Alex, I am not an expert but I'd say that the 100k is to change the frequency of the channel which acts as a digital button (Likely for dock power on/off. So the phone will charge even if the dock is off) www.seattlerobotics.org/encoder/mar97/basics.html
Alex Mag A "200k" resistor with a diode in series acts as a voltage doper which lowers the voltage (from 5v to 3.3v in your case, I think): electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/72709/basic-question-about-diode-voltage-drop-and-resistor-position
It is a great video. I did a little modification. I join all the four wires. Of course I used it for another purpose. I connect two phone to the computer and charge them both and upload or download files to and from computer phones. It is amazing. The trick doesn't work with my ipad or my samsung but the other phones are ok. Thanks man. It was of great help. Keep the good job.
Haha, oh man. Yeah. I went to a lot of trouble to make sure that you couldn't tell I was using my teeth for some of the wire stripping. I have since gotten a few *actual* wire strippers.
I did that, red red , black black, white white, gren gren, other other... and it only connects one or the other device on the Y end. I actually had to skip through all the video because i only needed to know the wire colors. 9 minutes for wire colors. lol
And the worst part is, I edited it down! I really hate that this video has so many views. Every time RU-vid congratulates me for getting more views, I just want to disappear. It could have been "Hey, cut up some USB cables and connect them according to the following diagram". Boom.
if this is staying at home most of the time, why not just stop at radio shack and grab the smallest and closest to a terminal strip with 4 contacts. the European style works good since it isolates every "conductive hazard" (the terminals, screws and anything metal) involed in hacking electronic "sh*t". might as well grab one with 8 contacts so you can make two separate custom rigs for transferring data.
Shawn E As long as you're getting power into the system, then all ends of the cable will have access to the data. Be careful, though. If you're trying to write to a device through multiple channels, you're likely to corrupt that device. With solid-state devices (like flash drives), there's even a chance that multiple, simultaneous reads could cause problems.
Thanks...it worked but with issues like you said. It didn't even matter that one device was not powered at the time. It actually some how turned the other device on lol. Oh well.
How not to struggle with scissors when stripping wire when you have no wire strippers: Use a lighter to slightly melt the sheathing on each wire at the point you want to remove it. It should take just a second or two. As soon as you take the flame away, grab the tip of the sheathing you want to remove and pull it off. If it doesn't come off easily, heat it again and try again. Don't burn the wire or light the sheathing on fire....just melt it.
It really depends on what the device is. If it's something complex like a keyboard or a mouse, I don't think there's much you can do. If it's more simple like a flash drive, I'd say try swapping the two things you have plugged in. But in the end, this cable isn't supposed to act like a USB hub. So be ready for a lot of unexpected behavior.
While I can't test this, I can say that in principle it should work that way. Be careful, though. There's no regulator in this "circuit". It's possible you could destroy your USB drive. Or worse, the whole thing could be one giant voltage feedback device, thus damaging both your USB drive and the HP Stream. Proceed at your own risk. And if you choose to embark down that path, please let us know what happened!
hi hey is it posible to make a cable for the dvd player.i have a dvd that reads only cd and dvd cd but does not have a usb port,in the back of dvd it has cable for video and for speakers the cables are red and white for the video it has orange cable.i woud like to wach movies from usb is it posibile and the dvd is -dce dvd 2500
I'm sure it's _possible_ but likely/practical? No. You certainly won't be able to just transmit audio/video data without some kind of interpretation. I suppose on the other end of that USB cable, you could build some circuitry in a breadboard that could interpret those signals. But for the time and money spent, you might as well just buy a $30, analog USB capture card from Newegg and save yourself the trouble.
I suppose it depends on how you plan to use that cable. There are three wires in the USB cable and three "wires" in the 3.5mm cable - cdn4.explainthatstuff.com/earbud-stereo-jack-plug-wiring.jpg. Fortunately, that means there are only 20 combinations. As long as you don't solder each combination, you should be able to experiment with connection schemes pretty easily. Curiously, for what do you plan to use that cable?
@@GameDr04 hi, I would like to ask if is it possible to use mini usb for male then female micro usb and female 3.5mm jack? I want to use it for action cameras so I can use external microphone while charging it in a powerbank without using battery
I have absolutely no idea. I've had that track on my computer for the better part of a decade. However, I can provide you with a link to it: theznet.org/people/public/files/k_Loop_01.wav
bro can you make tutorial about making mod DIY : 2 male usb to 1 female usb , to get much faster charge battery for smart phones so you can get more power ( mA ) from 2 USB port from mother board or usb charger . please guys thumps up my comment , so he can see it
OMG!!! This is not good. That for it is good, buy solder connector, and solder the two of them UTP cable! With sort lines, because it's spoil the speed, or make unusable.
i am looking for a cable that i can connect my phone to both android auto in the car, as well as an external thumb drive that the phone can access while connected to android auto. will a y cable like this work for me?
