Sadhguru talks about the most important duty of a child has towards their parents, to remind them to turn inward, and strive to access something beyond the physical.
remind your parents that in their life it is important they’ve done whatever they knew best till now it is time that they turn inward, it is time they invested some time and energy upon their own inner well-being

@@Ra-rg1vk When 18 a man has a long way ahead, much to explore. the society with its usual tendency drags him to material pleasures. But slowly as he reaches 50s he should think the spiritual aspect of existence and turn more inward. Turning more inward does not mean quitting parties and dance. But being aware of the reality. Being aware of this reality, being concious of your spiritual existance, you can go PARTY...nothing wrong...(but you wont feel inclined to that when you feel this reality) This is what sadguru meant. My mother was sick in hospital . I had a dream where I saw her well dressed on a long bright boulevard . She kept walking away without turning backwards towards me untill she disappeared while I was watching . I understood that her time had come . I visited her with a close friend she knew well . I offered to pray for God to give her some more time with us ...... My mom shook her head to say NO . The next day , I called all my siblings , told them that I felt our mother was leaving us and we must all go together to be with her . We called a priest who took time to arrive due to other assignments in that hospital . He arrived and administered the last sacrament ( my mom was catholic ) and said prayed . Once we responded Amen to his prayer , our mother crossed her arms on her chest , turned one side and breathed her last in peace .

My father was in hospital knowing he was dying. He was in great pain. A war veteran of 6 years, a good man loved by his family. My bother and myself as his daughter, held vigil making sure he was never alone, holding his hand and rubbed his feet. I was with him the moment he willingly died, telling him the names of all family who loved him. In Australia and other cultures many daughters also can take the honour of being with our loved ones.
@govardhanankn8427
@govardhanankn8427 2 года назад
This is not about honour or something. In India there was and is (much less now) a large family set up called Hindu Undivided Family (recognised by law and shortly called HUF), where Parents live with their sons and their families together under one roof. That is why it becomes duty of a son to take parents, pilgrimage. Instead trying to deep root the dying one to this world by reminding them about worldly things, it is always better to help them get enlightened to the truth ( of course, not in a harsh way).

People in Bharat are so lucky to naturally have this kind of spiritual knowledge about old age and death . Living in a western society , what I see is that even after 70 -80 years of age , they get engaged in dating , illicit physical relationships and then fighting . It is because their own children have no spiritual values either . Everything is based on materialism here that is very sickening.
@billi16

But in India too its bad these days. Very few families are spiritual. They are into fights, dowry material gain, old women spend time watching tv serials which are full of mother in law vs daughter in law fights. Have you ever been to India? Its so noisy! 24 hours a day film songs are blaring. The whole society worships movie stars and kids dance to movie songs too. Rapes and corruption is so high. So east or west both are corrupt. Many of their attitude is that they will continue to live forever. There, if the son or daughter will go to remind them that their time has come and they should prepare -- God help that son or daughter in law!! I am not talking about all, but a lot are like this. Totally agree that elders are trying to live a young person’s ideal life. To accept one’s advancing age and seek its particular lessons and fulfilment is very satisfying. Then one can very gradually detach from grasping the world, recognise what’s permanent and finally leave without painful regrets. Death is difficult to accept and spiritual practices are the only path that provides some relief.

I do understand the point Sadhguru is trying to make. However, I am 25 and I have always thought about death since I am a kid. I always have been thinking about the other side and wanted to know what is the meaning of this life. I moved live in India and try to develop my soul every day. I have never been afraid of death, on the contrari I think its a beautiful experience. However, being aware of my own death, doesn't mean I can't dance, or be joyfull in life. There was a point in my life where I tried to deattach so much from life that I lost all interest about being in this world. I don't think that is healthy either. And I don't see why age has to determen that. I can die.too at any moment. The point of my life is to grow spiritualy. But at the same time I can laugh and I can share my life with people and be in this world. Otherwise why did I come to.this world? To just think about death? No. My grandma prays for two hours a.day and she goes to monasteries often to do spiritual retreats there. At thr same time.she also dances around the house or goes to the cina with my grandpa.. I would not like to see my.grandparents closed at home, just waiting for death. You can develop your soul and at the same time be active and joyfull. I don't see why that is seen as oposite.

Guruji we Indian parents, at least most of us are in the evolved mode. Lighting lamps, praying to god to give us a painless end and well being of our children and grand children, this is all our daily activities. It is ingrained in our being from childhood. we really don’t need our children to create that atmosphere. On the other hand our children create that atmosphere in their own way talking about will, nomination for the property, bank deposits etc now then , reminding us of our impending end. Please let us live our last days in some happiness ,doing things that we want to do, traveling, painting, getting together with friends etc without all the time thinking about death After all nothing is in our hands. So there is no particular age when we can say ok, from tomorrow I’m going to prepare for my death..

I agree with you. We are all equal in the eyes of death. Nothing to say that one’s older parents won’t outlive one. But a talk like this would be specifically geared towards older people who might get confused or terrified of the idea of death and to mentally prepare them for it. There are many folk who want to remain immortal. This may sound absurd but such people do exist . My mother is an incredible example of this. Continues making plans expecting to outlive every one else. Constantly creates cycles of dependency so that people and life only revolve around her. Is deeply focused on material attachments and existence. She does no turning inward whatsoever. Tried to introduce ideas around spirituality , yoga etc but she dismisses them as brainwashing nonsense . I guess some people are content being attached to their material existence till death. Who knows maybe this sort of material existence will bring her no fear of dying till the end. Or hopefully it will be a quick exit with no time to think or be scared. The inward journey is not necessarily for everyone. Best to leave people to figure out for themselves where and what they want to for the end. If your own soul is not speaking to you and there is no receptivity and one does not understand that there is a higher self and dimensions beyond death, it makes no sense to introduce or impose these ideas

Though I agree to prepare the mind and heart for the inevitable, I do believe that one should still live to enjoy themselves whether it’s enjoying a meal or the cinema because it’s an experience we get once while in this lifetime. My dad passed recently and we really thought he’d come home since it was a procedure the doctors promised would cure him and that didn’t happen. I hope he didn’t pass in terror but I do know he didn’t want to go nor was he or us prepared for the outcome. 💔

They are the bosses ..and even ask me what I've been doing all day...while they sleep late and rise late.. Is it because my husband had an untimely death.. Today I'm lonely after educating my children and they are employed. ..I struggled to give them education. What has life shown me as a senior citizen ...I practice yoga and meditate... My mum passed away from a heroin overdose when I was 15 years old, she had a lot of problems and I didn’t understand her at the time, I didn’t even think she liked me. 20 years later and only the past 5 years I’ve learned about her through a diary she kept which was mainly about me. Four children she had but she was to mentally unwell to look after me when I was born and I was dropped off on my Nan’s doorstep when I was a few days old. My mum visits me in dreams and I often have reoccurring nightmares of her house which I can’t understand why, it’s not something I constantly think about but I’m haunted by, maybe the trauma from her leaving this world so abruptly? I have lovely dreams of her speaking with me and When she has visited me she has told me things that I didn’t know so I know it wasn’t my own subconscious that made it up. I want to speak to her so. I want to know her 💔 How can I connect with her?

Let's not forget that society decided a son was the most logical to complete these things but no where scripturally does it say so. Many daughters today take over caring for their parents AND in laws, take both on pilgrimage, etc. When a couple takes the 7 phere they join together to pursue dharma and one aspect of this is caring for each others parents. Women's responsibility for their parents doesn't stop because they are married. Unfortunately, for better or worse the idea as evolved perhaps to make it easier on daughters that ok the son can take that responsibility but to be clear, many daughters do and should if they can, take care of their parents. It is a child's dharma to care for their parents as their parents cared for them, girl or boy doesn't matter. I say this because we all know some sons are not inclined to do this and vice versa some daughters are not inclined. However, may all parents be blessed that they have at least one child that cares for them in their old age.

My father is 70.He has done everything, what he could do for us. One year ago I noticed him stalking a young girl from neighborhood.i ignored it initially.the girl comes at her rooftop for laundry everyday. She is easily visible from my rooftop. Now my father spends whole day at rooftop looking at her rooftop.whenever she passes by my house, he comes down to the street and wait till she returns.i tried to give him indication that I know about this, but it seems he doesn't care. I didn't wanna tell this to my maa but I realize that he is not going to give up.so I told my maa about this. Guess what.. She didn't believe me and now had stop talking to me.

@@Kim.Miller so true... I find it revolting. Masculinity and femininity are energies within each individual. We can choose to harness any whenever needed within limits. The external appearance n sexual functions of each gender is just a play of nature to propagate the species. However, we are here to discuss spirituality which usually involves energy. It's a strange and incomprehensible notion, when we are facing death, we as a conscious being end. Life is thoughts, memories, emotions. Death is both letting go of here, and those of us here, letting go of the dying. We will all face this transition, usually from letting go of loved ones, then our own end. Perhaps we invest too much time and energy in this place, and the events in this place. What is being shared here is perhaps we need to invest more into ourselves, our experience and inner beingness. So much distracts us to focus on outer issues. Life is simple, your emotions are the guide to going in, finding your true self.
