"I remember the hell out of it" is now replacing the overused "like it was yesterday." This will be the correct phrase to use until it dies or we find a better one.
I'm a big fan of the original ordinary Makers Mark. So I tried the Makers 46. Honestly try it at a bar or something before buying a bottle. I didn't like it all compared to the original! Just my opinion.
"Drinking the original Maker's, it makes me miss the 46" is exactly how I feel, though I've never tried the cask strength of either. The original is what got me "into" bourbon, and thus was always my go to. But the few times I've had it lately, I just wished it was 46.
The way they described makers vs makers 46 is exactly how I felt. Once I had Maker's 46 (regular strength) I can't go back to regular Maker's which was a long time favorite!
I have enjoyed Maker's Mark and Marker's 46 though I enjoy both Bourbon's I think Maker's 46 is more flavorful I haven't had any of the cask strength Bourbon's
Excellent point Daniel. Does this alternative method make it interesting? It certainly isn't a replacement for time in the cask. I hate agreeing with you. Also look how much better Dan's beard looks now. It was a horror, as proved by that pajama pic.
new to bourbon and had some makers original this weekend and felt like it was so smooth and bland compared to other bourbons im drinking. Like diet whiskey flavor lol.
Here is what I learned about Makers 46 Cask Strength from this video: Rex and Dan like it. Drinking normal Maker's makes them miss Maker's 46. Has brown sugar and cherry. Makers 46 just has cherry. Cool. Thanks. :P
I have tried Makers 46 (non cask strength) in 2 blind tastings and it has finished dead last twice for me vs some similar priced bourbons (Evan Williams SB, Michters, Russell Reserve, etc). And I mean last by a mile, after taking a few sips its undrinkable for me. There are only a couple options, either I got a bad bottle or I just don’t like wheaters or there may something about the French oak staves that I detest. I know many people that love it, so I’m just really perplexed why i’m so wrong way charlie on this one?
I always thought scotch was the only whisky you drink neat. After watching many of your videos and trying different bottles of whisky, I’ve learned that I personally enjoy cheaper bourbon the most. Makers is one of my favorites and I can only hope that one day my palate with becomes as magnificent as Rex’s hair has over the years.
You think the 46 it’s worth the extra money? I haven’t tried it yet. I love Maker’s but at the store a 1.75 liter of Maker’s is $38 and a regular size bottle of 46 is $33......But after typing this out I’m now too curious to pass up the 46. But after I try it I’m worried I might think “I could’ve gotten a 1.75 for only $5 more..”
Hey guys I just got myself a Christmas gift and it was a bottle of nikka 12 my wife found out how much I spent and said all whiskey tastes the same and wants me to take it back what should I do
Hey if you guys have the time to drink a little more I’d love to hear your take on American Barrels Bourbon Whiskey. It’s shaped like a shotgun shell and wrapped in a snake. It’s a pretty cool looking bottle but I’d love to get your take on what’s inside.
I have a question for you guys. My father has a fifth of Ballantines scotch unopened in the box that is 75 years old. I told him it is probably worth a decent amount of money, but have no idea where to turn to find out. i've looked online but the oldest thing I can find is 40 years old. Do you have any advice? Thank you.
I’m a new drinker (turned 21 in March) I now use you guys channel as a basis for stuff to try. I really enjoyed Monkey Shoulder. I like it straight or mixed
I know I'm going to get some hate for this but I don't think Daniel looks like a Hobbit, he looks like a Dwarf, specifically he looks like Dwalin but with less hair.
I didn't like makers 46, it was like a mouth full of suger for me Yes brown suger Not pleasent for me at all theirs two types of sweet. Sugar sweet & fruit sweet This whisky i wont bye again hut remember as one of my worst
46. Should be called El Biden lol after half a bottle you forget who you are, think your in trouble like a little kid if you keep talking. Really slur your speech an loose your balance
discovered you guys 2 weeks ago have watched everything you have ever made applied to the face book group a week ago answered every thing properly including the pass word and ive been in pending purgatory ever since :(
I’ve never agreed with Daniel more than with his comments about ultra sonic aging. People absolutely go after the wrong question in the wrong way. Cheers and applause from a cynical distiller
Would love to get you take on RC6 from Maker's wood finishing series. It's a limited edition, but I'm sure there are still bottles available. Btw, it's bottled at 54.1%.
When will the nerfed MB graphic and into-outro songs be restored to their original glory? Are you still flying through space? Some work needs to be done yo...
Has *ANYONE* tried the Lost Spirits whiskey or rum??? Guy out of LA have supposedly SCIENTIFICALLY discovered how to age new make in *SIX DAYS* that rivals most (all?) 20 year olds. Award winning, very reasonably priced and *IMPOSSIBLE* to get almost anywhere but in California. The quest is *KILLIN MEH!!!!!!*
Velma was the obvious choice. There wasn't anything being implied gender-wise, she is the most studious and level-headed of the group but if that doesn't satisfy you, one could easily see the argument for Scrappy-Doo.
Would you consider the ultrasonic aging method to be in the same ballpark as Brown Forman's temperature control techniques? Both are trying to achieve an effect similar to one that comes with age, just quicker...?
Outside of things like, fake patina, staining and other type of visual aging, as in cosmetic effects on materials, I only know one place where rapid aging kinda works and that`s Eliquid, slight heating and agitation through for instance ultrasonic treatment, does have an effect, as it helps the molecules mix together, but with more complex blends and/or larger molecules, I don`t know. I believe alchohol molecules to be large although I might be wrong, but the thought occured to me that mixing might be more difficult with alchohol than Eliquid, since you might want material from a barrel in the mix. "The reason why the solubility decreases as the length of hydrocarbon chain increases is because it is requires more energy to overcome the hydrogen bonds between the alcohol molecules as the molecules are more tightly packed together as the size and mass increases" Never thought of rapid aging of spirits, but I`d like to know more :)
Hello guys. I have a question: I am a big whiskey fan, my favorites being laphroaig although I enjoy almost all scotches and jameson castmates although I enjoy most Irish whiskies. I've drank bourbon with water and ice for most of my life as well, but I've never liked it straight. I've tried all the big brands as well as pretty much every bourbon available to me and the only ones out of probably twenty different ones I can sort of drink are buffalo trace and angels envy although even those are a struggle. Am I destined to not be a bourbon drinker, or are there any that you can reccomend that might change my mind?
46 on ice, is my drink at the club, they make the drink when I walk in. Some where in the barrel vaults, is a barrel with my name on it, maturing. One day I am buying my blend. Cheers, gentlemen.
I know that sound works on cheese. There was a scientific study that came out this summer showing that Hip Hop was the clear winner. Makes me wonder what a continuous loop of Rex's mad laughter would do to the whiskey. Can't wait to find out!
On the sonic aging topic, saw the following video and it seems to be something. Daniel, great Velma clarification; the correct questions would be, "Does sonic treatment make something that tastes good and interesting?" The goal is to taste good and interesting, that is why we age, and finish for that point, as well. Link follows: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YlQT4ptwLKs.html
So they say rum ages faster than whisky due to the difference in climate it is usually aged in. This could be a dumb question but here goes: has anyone tried to age the same whisky in hot and cold climates to see the difference?
My wife and I were out of town this past weekend. Our hotel had a neat saloon in it, and we noticed an un-opened bottle of Makers cask strength. We asked for 2 glasses of that, at which point the bartender raised his eyebrows. After a few glasses Fri night and a few more Sat night, we put a good dent in that bottle. The bartender was impressed. And boy, is that stuff smooth.
You all need to make a wooden sign with your saying "The best whiskey is the whiskey you like to drink and the way you like to drink it".I'd buy that. Also would be awesome for you all to do a vote/video of the best wheat whiskeys under 50 and the best rye whiskeys under 50
I recently got into whiskeys (just turned 21) but did not fully understand what it meant to like whiskey until I got into scotch. After watching your videos I have bought and tried Elijah Craig small batch, makers mark, monkey shoulder, and JW black label. I really enjoy JW black label and thought monkey shoulder was a bit too sweet and wasn't giving me a proper "toss around the room." For my next bottle, I was considering JW double black, Laphroaig 10, or Buchanan's 12. Any thoughts or recommendations you magnificent bastards?
