Although creation of Apple Strudel or ‘Apfelstrudel’ predates the origination of the croissant in its known form, it was still heavily influenced by Blakava which came from the Ottoman Empire. There is however a tradition known to Austrians as ‘Mehlspeisen’ - which describes the tradition of bakeries to create particular delicacies based off of certain core ingredients.
