Kelly, I just want to say thank you for answering my question in your last video about young adult life. I ended up breaking up with my boyfriend of 8 years this weekend. Not because we don’t love each other, just because we are not right for each other anymore. It is really painful to realize that someone is not for you when you’ve spent 8 years thinking you would spend the rest of your life with this person. I really appreciated you taking the time to give your advice. Also loved all of the lip switches and declutter. Great quality content as always!
Hi, love! I am so sorry to hear that this is something you're going through. I understand this pain, all too well. I broke up with my boyfriend of seven years, who I was still completely in love with when I left him, for much the same reasons as you did just under a year ago. It's been a difficult year, healing from that pain and learning what I DO want and what type of person WILL BE for me. I say all of this just to say, I'm rooting for you, and I hope everything works out for you!
I have so many complicated feelings about makeup declutters. I want to be able to get rid of the items I don't use, but I sometimes work as an actor, and I never know what I will need to create a stage makeup look. Beyond that, I don't many people in my life I would feel comfortable giving used makeup to, which means whatever I would declutter would probably end up in the garbage, which I am fine with if a product is just bad and I can't make it work, but would hate if it is fine but just not my favorite. And then whenever I have to throw makeup away, I feel bad because that means I spent my money on something that I didn't do enough research to ensure it works before I bought it. But I love watching makeup declutters because it is so satisfying watching someone streamline their makeup collection.
I use a bar of Shea Moisture African Black Soap to clean my brushes. My brushes are mostly white, undyed natural goat hair, so this soap has multiple possible benefits. There are claims that it is antibacterial and antifungal, it conditions the hairs and I can confirm from experience that it has skin bleaching properties (I first used their liquid version of this soap on myself and noticed that my skin was getting lighter; after looking into it I found out about the skin bleaching properties and stopped because I don't want that). Added bonus, it is a natural soap!
Kelly makes me smile with the light brown /natural shadow obsession. First in Tartlette Toasted, then the one in Whiskey Business, now in the Kylie Bronze palette. We like what we like and I think that's awesome. 😌
So happy to see the beautiful Tilly (spelling?) make an appearance! Lovely declutter. I’ve never bought a lip stain but I’m considering it now. You asked how often we clean our brushes/sponges and what do we use. I’m that crazy person who feels compelled to clean them after every use. If I’m really in a rush I use that spray from Sephora for a quick clean. Otherwise I use the Beauty Blender liquid cleanser with the lavender scent.
i love this look so much! that shirt is so cute. i just washed my brushes for the first time in a really long time and it’s just so tedious. i’m struggling to admit to myself that i will never wear the 2 red lipsticks i have but i keep “just in case”
I do a monthly makeup basket, which includes rotating a brush set, sponges/powder puff. I wash them every weekend, very satisfying 😊. I use Shea Moisture bar soaps to wash everything ✌🏾😉
Everyone's been doing declutter and organizing videos (juicyjas, lauren, you) i only need to do the top of my hair dresser and clothes. Maybe this is a sign lol
Update: i finished cleaning my hair dresses and bedside table. Those two things have been eating away at me for MONTHS anytime i looked at them. I just need 2 more furniture tops and my floor and ill be done. Thanks kelly ❤
I think they are Velvet Kag medium almond. You can see it's press-ons around 33:47 They look so gorgeous I just scoured the whole Olive & June website to find them 😂
This is such a treat, I love your taste in colors! Seeing a makeup declutter and organization video is always so soothing, thank you for making this video! 👏 Normalize 👏 throwing 👏 away 👏 expired 👏 makeup! I get grossed out about what expired makeup does after watching Style Theory's video on the subject. 🤢
I aim to wash brushes 1x a week no matter how many there are. I use dawn dish soap and if i had any natural hair just a regular shampoo would do. I find if i drag it out i will fall out of habit and then end up with no brushes remaining lol
When I was playing with my makeup every day, I just washed my brushes right after doing my skin care for the evening, but I got out of that habit, and am struggling to get back into it.
I so love these. I just received a mini of the Ulta lip stain. I love how lip stains can also completely transform your lip gloss. I love it, never tried a stain. This is helpful to me I know good brands to look for when adding to my lip collection. I wear lipgloss everyday to work so I go through them fast.
The click packaging is so bad on the Tarte lipsticks. I feel like buying the mini, with the twist packaging, is the only option at this point so you can actually use your product.
I have both the mini and and a fullsize but the mini is so more prone to breaking off since the packaging isn't supporting the lipstick. Mine broke off because it melted and now I have to use it with a lip brush. So their packaging just sucks anyways haha
I finally reorganized by brand. I couldn't keep shades together. I wanted the new Odens Odens Eye llip Helaween collection, but I have way too many lippies as it is.
I wash my brushes once a week! I have a pretty small brush collection, so I never have to wash more than 10 brushes and it's one of the chores that I kind of like doing 😅 But it also only takes me a few minutes. I use a Dove bar soap and a brush egg to wash them 😊
Yes I did the same declutter with my lip collection; sadly many were expired but now it’s Downsized that will remind me to use what I have and buy no more
I wash mine on Sunday evenings while kids shower. I find the ELF solid cleanser works the best, takes all stains out of any sigma white bristle brushes and sponges. Fav sponge is the Kokki purple ones.
Bar soap is the best way to clean your beauty blender! I've tried so many things and bar soap is the way to go girl! Maybe that would help you next time.
I use either ponds cold cream cleaner for cleaning my brushes if they have a lot of makeup. If they don't have much, then Myers Liquid Hand Soap. It's great antibacterial soap.
Lol don’t worry it takes me an hour to clean my brushes too. I set up my laptop on the sink and bring a bar stool in my bathroom so it’s a little more relaxing. Also I don’t remember who recommended this but I actually double cleanse my brushes like you would your face. I first massage a super cheap cleansing oil into the dry brush and it breaks up most of the caked on product, then you rinse and follow up with a bar soap or solid brush cleanser. I know it’s 2 steps but it actually takes less time to get the product out bc the oil does a lot of the work. I hope this helps someone!!
I prefer the real techniques sponge to the beauty blender. For brush cleansing I struggled to find a decent cleanser for foundation brushes, nothing really cleaned the foundation off and the brush would get kinda gross but I recently tried an face oil cleanser and they worked amazingly so I think when that one finishes i'll buy another cheap oil cleaser for my brushes. For powder brushes a bar soap works very well.
I use olive oil and dawn liquid. It helps break down the makeup oils and junk in the brushes. I wash my sponges in a mason jar w/ very hot water, olive oil snd shampoo. I put the sponges in and shake vigorously, let sit as I’m washing brushes. Then rinse them out. The sponges look as good as new. I roll the sponges into a towel, and step on them ti squeeze out water. Lol. It works.
I wash my brushes every 1-2 months with Dr Bronner’s Castile soap. Most of my brushes are synthetic, so I don’t feel the need to be super careful. Cream product brushes will usually get washed more often than brushes I use for powder products. I also use that quick brush cleanser for my eyeshadow brushes about once a week to switch colors, the one where you spray it on a tissue and brush it around, but not a full clean.
The ride or die lip balms by elf should be discontinued and then brought back in different packaging. The packaging is so messy and hard to get the product out in colder months.
I clean my brushes and sponge with the pink Zote soap. The Zote soap is usually on the laundry soap aisle in Walmart. My brushes get cleaned every other weekend, although I am trying to do them every Friday.
I love this kind of video and appreciate all the swatches, but I did get really dizzy bc it was going in and out of focus so much, which I’ve never noticed before!
I smiled really big when you said this used to be my OG from Persona, but I'm not sure it's my color anymore because it matched your nails perfectly. I tend to do a big wash day on brushes as well. I tend to use baby shampoo to wash my brushes. I like the idea of using old shampoos that didn't work for your hair because I have a few of those. I enjoyed the video.
