@@liamjoshua8054 True. ButIt would have been better if she played marilyn in a movie that honors her though. The director is a horrible person.
@mirandaroub8668
@mirandaroub8668 Год назад
@@puurrrr I completely see why the assault scenes feel problematic. But they are always filmed from her perspective, and meant to portray the overarching effect her abuse by men had on her. The truth of her experiences lies in these scenes, which honestly don’t show a lot when compared to the existing depictions of sexual assault in media today. Ana de Armas is a grown woman working with a director she liked, and dedicated herself to the role, embodying Marilyn as both a, yes, sexual person and, sadly, a victim. People want to see the side of Marilyn we’ve seen in every documentary. Her laugh, her kindness, sweetness, and activism. She was loving and never wanted to inflict the damage done to her. This shows the side of Marilyn we were not allowed to see, but as Marilyn used to, she enjoyed being comfortable in her body, laying topless as a man is permitted to. The sexualization of her abuse is horrible, but definitely not what the film was portraying. These scenes are the antithesis of the scene of her looking at herself in the mirror, maybe truly appreciating her own worth and beauty for the first time. It’s powerful and represents her sexual rebirth. Marilyn was a sex positive person. She was comfortable in her skin, but not her life. Her beauty was important to her, which is also portrayed. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I felt the scenes of abuse showed how men tried to steal that beauty and power for themselves, because they couldn’t stand the idea there was a brain behind the blonde. And it shows in this movie. Marilyn’s life was no fairytale. It was a decades-long nightmare. As Rocketman and Bohemian rhapsody did not shy away from the sex lives and trials of their subjects, this film should not have to either, simply because Ana is a woman and women supposedly should not play their roles as they were in essence if it means being topless, or for once showing the victim’s thoughts and perspective. It’s hard to watch because her life was hard to live. Art is meant to disturb the comforted and comfort the disturbed. Don’t watch if you will feel too affected, as it is very sensitive to victims of SA. But some like me may find their eyes opened to the trauma of women like Marilyn, even if the trauma didn’t happen exactly as depicted. The truth of her trauma is in this movie. If you can stomach it, there’s a lot to learn about her mindset.
@liamjoshua8054

I honestly don’t find Ana’s performance to be anything particularly impressive, technical, and memorable. She was acting distressed, tense, and anxious throughout the whole movie & constantly crying. The way she talks & her voice sound forced & unnatural. I don’t exactly blame her since the script is horrific. It’s hard for an actor to convey what they thrive to do if the director already flopped. Her chance of getting an Oscars nomination has significantly dropped.

It’s disrespectful to the point that it should be excluded from awards even if her portrayal was lovely. It’s sad. They literally exploited Marilyn Monroe once again with this movie. And basically portrayed Marilyn Monroe as if she was fictional character and not a real person with real life trauma and experiences. But they took her real life situations, experiences, and traumas and fabricated for a entertainment. I’m so surprise this movie got pass approval this day in age.

And It’s based on a book where they took real parts of Marilyn life and story and rewrote their own version of the events that took place based on their imagination. It’s a fictional biopic. For example as soon as I heard about the fictional scene of her and the president i was like wtf. Putting myself in her shoes, I wouldn’t want anyone rewriting over my traumas and scandals.

I'm amazed by the puritan comments about the film. I can think about countless examples of terrible violence onscreen, and this film is nowhere near. It depicts what was like for beautiful women then, how they were treated, and you don't like to admit that. Long story short: most yankees do not like to face the reality behind the movie-making industry in the studio system era, it's better to pretend that life was a Technicolor dream. But hey, it's fine to watch films in which people are chopped to pieces, soaked in blood and shot for no reason! Ah! the protestant "ethics", that unfathomable hypocrite universe.
