As I like to say, "sometimes you have to shoot the things you don't want to do, to afford the things you do want to do. I get asked all the time how to I make money with this or that. Sometimes there might not be a lot of money floating around in landscape or wildlife but you love it. In that case sometimes, it might be smart to photograph portraits or families, to generate money to afford to keep doing the other stuff you truly love.

100% correct. I'm not making a lot shooting sports and concerts but that's my passion. Teaching allows me to do what I love. I don't do youth or high school sports because I don't want my photography spilling over into my teaching life. I know there money their but at my age I don't need the drama. I've got a good relationship with some folks I work with. Like independent pro wrestling. I know their budget and I'm good to them and when they do better they hook me better. I don't like weddings or portraits but that's money too. I like doing them here and there as I love challenging myself and learning from others more knowledgeable in that genre. I need to get me some Skittles.

I’ve been impressed so far with DXO pureraw with my R7. The noise reduction at 6400 to 12800 has been incredibly impressive so far. I’ve noticed that Lightroom seems to lose detail compared to DXO pureraw or canon’s DPP…so the software does matter. Unfortunately, Topas denoise is having issues with R7 files, so I’ve given up on that for now - and while it’s generally worked, it’s hit and miss with artifacts it can produce, so takes time to get it right. But the right software can make a big difference.
@Alan3345

yep I always use dxo pureraw on Wildlife images from my r6 as they look better after using dxo then importing directly into lightroom. lightroom doesn't seem to handle Canon raw files as well as other systems and they appear noisier in lightroom than they actually are.

While Denoise AI third party software can really work great when needed, especially for cameras with sensitive ISO noise and cropping is desired. I believe many pro sports photographers will agree, but certainly NOT for all genres of uses. Then again, LUTs (Lookup Tables) found in ACR and used to modify the image to a personal preference in much the same as the "Skittles" does that you frequently promote. In fact, Adobe ACR (and as the developer tool in LT) can create a very same "Skittles" appearance, then saved, which is one of countless adjustments one can create as a personal library, plus what Adobe has already included.

The ball blurs at anything under 1/320 shutter speed. My lenses at 55mm is f/5.6. The people at the photography shop just say "its time for a better body. One day I hope to pick one up. I'm somewhere in between Gromtrooper6189 and Frontdesk99. In some cases, denoise software can work great with little to no noticeable loss in detail or sharpness. In some cases however, the picture can lose detail or introduce artifacts. Using denoise software can also substantially slow down workflow. All things considered, I think this is an area where reasonable people can disagree.

I gotta agree with you about the de-noising. I used to be really anal about noise in my images, but I've learned that in most cases, it's really not that big a deal. When printing, it's even less of a factor because the noise just disappears. I can see why this guy put watermarks in his images (did he know you'd post this to YT?), but personally, I really dislike big, blatant watermarks. I like the critiques, but a lot of it seemed to be post processing and preset tips, which are important, but getting the shot right compositionally should be the #1 thing, IMO. Also, I probably would've cropped/framed some of the wildlife shots a bit differently (seemed like a lot of animals were too centered). Anyway, these critiques are always informative to watch. The biggest thing I've found that helped my photography is getting out of auto-ISO. You really railed on it when I started watching so I decided to go full manual, and it took a while, but now it's all I shoot and the only time I ever find myself at high ISO is when I want to be there to add noise on purpose. For birds in flight it's a bit more rough, but still possible. I also stop using denoise and the noise that remains look fine. When I look at a photo you can tell when someone does denoise and it turns me off entirely now. It's all I see is the fringing outline it leaves around the subject.
@cooloox
@cooloox Год назад
The denoising software these days is so good that, if used properly, you wouldn't know it was used at all and would think it was just a nice clean shot. You can remove noise and enhance details at the same time. Anyone making it obvious is simply not good as using the software. Acceptance of noise is also a personal opinion. I hate noise, it's as simple as that. If you don't mind it, that's your taste.
@TheExtraTerrestrial
@TheExtraTerrestrial Год назад
On modern cameras, ISO doesn't matter much. You can keep it low and underexpose, but once you raise it to get to the proper exposure, the amount of noise will look the same (or worse). Of course, some of this is camera dependent. For the most part, the auto-ISO on my D850 does a good job. It occassionally overexposes, but I can add in some exp. comp, or just lower the exposure in post, which hides some of the noise. I'm not sure why there is so much hate for auto-ISO. I found it very freeing to not have to worry about it (most of the time).
@actionphotopassion5082
@actionphotopassion5082 Год назад
Auto ISO is a huge plus. Even more when it can be combined with minimum shutter speed on the latest cameras. It's assuring to have always the right exposure according to aperture and shutter speed wanted. I shoot sports only in auto iso. Action photography don't let time to adjust that anyway... Probably those who don't want to use auto iso are just used to shoot with their iso set, no problem there neither.
@Philtho
@Philtho Год назад
@@actionphotopassion5082 I shoot primarily wildlfe and I ran into what Fro ran into, auto-ISO will go nuts. It has NO problem setting ISO to 6400 when it could be shot at 800 in so many situations. At least, on my Canons. Maybe on other cameras they are tamed better, but when I go in full manual, my images come out a million times better. If it's working great for you, awesome! I wish it all worked perfect for me, too. Maybe someday.

Yes we shouldn't buy anything other than Jared's light room presets... We can buy whatever we want to modify images how we want to, to achieve the look we want to in post-production. Since you didn't get to see the pre-denoised photos, it's difficult for anyone to know whether the original image was not worthy of noise removal. However, we do appreciate your feedback on images, hence the people sending in images for your feedback. And no, I don't use Adobe anything. Also anyone who submits photos with long verbose filenames which hints at what software was used to manipulate them, gives away what was done to them. Now, for their own purposes of knowing what was done to them for their own archives, yes, makes perfect sense, but you're putting a target on your back if you submit them for review that way. I would just make a copy of the edited image with the RAW filename in another folder or use a descriptive name for the subject or theme, but leave out the processing references for other people to review. Do this for all the files you intend to submit for review.
