The universal chuck that comes with the Lyman trimmer is what sold me on it. It does work well, if you want to do lots of trimming a carbide cutter is a must. Thanks Georgia! Mike.
Hello Kare! You're right! It works great, keeps the bench clean which is a bigger deal than it sounds. James has some other good stuff too. Thanks for your comment. Mike.
I have some off brand 45 Colt brass to make into 45 Cowbow. Ill use my electric trimmer start but might make up a trim jig or die to rough cut first. Also large cutting jobs like these REALLY prove the value of a carbide cutter!) Good stuff!
Morning CW! Hope you're doing well today, we miss ya. I thought about a trim jig but I don't do big trims like this very often, once I wear out the 2 standard cutters I have I'll buy a carbide one. I do have a small batch of .45 Cowboy to do next as well.
Great video Mike! I have that trimmer and I need to get the drill adapter. The hand crank is not good for big batches or trims like yours. The rocket ship tool is awesome! Have a great day!
Hi Marc, I use the hand trimmer most of the time if it's only gonna be a few thousandths like most rifle brass. The Lyman tool is great, I don't normally need the other tools it came with because I have others that I prefer. Overall Lyman stuff works well. Mike.
@@HobbiesHobo It's much easier on the hands and wrist to turn the trimmer away from you with the drill facing you . It takes much less effort to trim and easier to control the speed .
That would be my preference as well. My bench isn't wide enough to do that though, I might mount the bin on another 2x4 so I can put it in the vise instead, that way my bench is clear also.
I save my split rims for this in 44mag but not sure I want to bother with 38 since a full double ended wadcutter fills the space with a similar charge. I’d cut them first then prep center but neat little box if you have to do it on the reloading bench.
This will probably be the only batch of .38 Short Colt that I'll ever need, for my 3" Subcaliber Adapter in my SBS Shotgun. The plastic bin works great, no shavings except in the bin.
