My re designed Simplex has 2 BA fittings all over and I dropped the hex key twice today! As well!! If only the builder had done split boxes as I am having to carefully file each to fit into new horns on the new frames!! I have done the keeps as well and these are full length plates that should go to help keep the track OIL FREE. I have a very stiff frame now. Loving what you are doing. David and Lily Reading Track.

Mr. F. Looks like your modification is going to work quite well. Do you plan on using the spring ball type oiler in the end of the axels? I forget what that are called. Gits oilers maybe? When you do the bevels or chamfers to the insides of the axel boxes, will you do them up by hand filing or will you machine them. Great series my friend. Thanks for taking the time to film and post. Joe Yes i will use the oilers in the end of the axles, ive ordered them from china, hope fully there just coming over the pacific ocean, china calls them push button oilers, they have got various names, got 20 off for £1.77 delivery included, how do they do it!!!!!! As for the bevels, ive decided to machine them, i'm in the process of doing a detailed machining process of the whole axle box including the bevel. thanks for your comments regards mr f

Although it takes a bit more material and work, I think the axle boxes made by Mr Crispin make a whole lot of sense.

Hi there, thanks for viewing and commenting I appreciate. Yes that's a fair comment, and for any professional builders I agree. I'm just trying to keep things simple from a beginner's perspective to encourage more novices to have a go. Regards Mr f

Since you split the boxes, you could still incorporate oil wells and felts for a better lubrication system. Cheers

Hi Thanks for taking time to view and comments, I appreciate it Yes, I did think about it, I have put a oil groove in the axle boxes and suppose I could incorporate a felt in the oil groove, i may do just that. thanks again regards mr f

I might have to do this for when I get to this stage of my sweet pea did you have to buy extra cast iron to make the split boxes or did you use the cast iron supplied in the starter kit ?

Hello Morris Sentinel Thanks for taking interest and comments, i have not bought a starter kit so i don't really know what you have got, i bought some lumps of cast iron from a near by foundry, and cut it up to my requirements, all my materials for boiler and chassis etc. are from the cheapest suppliers i could find, take a look back at materials video. Nice to hear someone else who is building same loco. What stage are you at, are you building a sweet pea or metre maid, are you a well established builder or a beginner like me. thanks for getting in touch mr f

Mr Factotum I am building an 0-4-0 sweet pea i am a complete beginner I haven’t even drilled the holes in the frames yet due to exams and other things getting in the way hopefully I will be able to do that over the summer. I only have a lathe and a terrible drill press that doesn’t even have a taper . So I am waiting until a friend of mine will allow me to use his milling machine for a day to drill all the holes .

@@laurenssmith9534 Thats nice to hear, at least you have only 2 axles to contend with instead of the 3 axles on the metre maid, as for the drill press, i have a really old Herbert drill press and a hobby mill, but i ended up doing mine on my £30 chinese bench drill, check my video out on that if you have time. Anyway all the best with your build and keep in touch if i can help in any way regards mr f
