I decided to upgrade from the more common Railroad Track Anvil to a heavier, more workable chunk of metal. I present to you....THE BRIDGE STYLE ANVIL. I made this from two pieces of 10" lengths of railroad track which sits upon a 1" thick railroad bracket. This in total weighs 43 pounds, which is a big upgrade from the old anvil which was at around 15 pounds. It has a face of 4.5"x 10" and is 7" tall.
I already have big plans for this guy, including forge welding a tool steel plate on the top, and adding onto the base a 2" layer of lead encased by welded plate steel. All in all, I would like this anvil to weigh somewhere in the 80-100 pound range.
Enjoy!

The base plate you are (were) making for the anvil is being made from a railroad "Tie Plate." Tie plates prevent the rails from being pounded into wooden ties from very heavy trains.

I didn't realize you welded 2 tracks together till I saw this video. That was a really good idea and it turned out very nice. Good work.

Good video to see your design idea. I am working on configuring 5 ft of RR Track into an Anvil now and have a quick video on it.

Thanks for the idea. Think I'll groove a little more out, more fillets might may it stronger, I'm just a backyard welder too though. Thanks again.

I think its really cool that the name of the r.r. is there on the side of your anvil. if you had to choose the piece of track that would be the section to use. I am not sure if you meant to or not but that adds value to it for sure. Especially to someone like me who is into r.r.'s and r.r. history

Check the windshield on your car. You will probably find pitting on it from the grinding sparks. Cover the windows when you grind soo close to your cars. Keep up the practice.
