Tiled concrete tubs were popular for a brief time in the 70s. But , all that concrete would suck the heat out of the water before you could get comfortable. This is OK if you like cold baths.
@NathanNostaw
@NathanNostaw 8 лет назад
I agree, way to much mass. In winter you would need an underfloor heating system in this just to make it usable. Cast iron tubs are bad enough for turning hot water cold, but solid concrete is just too much.

Any good self respecting bathroom is a private get away with in-floor and in-wall hydronics, it's own dedicated instantaneous tankless condensing boiler, heated towel bars...Ipe wood seating and flooring, infra-red heat lamps, steam generators, fully tiled, glass block natural light...glass surrounds over an inch thick, a bidet, a sauna, a door leading to private outdoor jacuzzi / tiki / koi pond garden - of COURSE, this tub has thermal mass = beneficial - once heated, it STAYS heated. Maybe it's just me.

Curious how this has held up over the years. About to do the Same!

I can only imagine this looking very dirty after a few years of use, just like any city street. I wonder if it pulled the heat out of the water quickly?

If radiant heat was being installed in the floors it could be continued in the walls of the tub too.
@jerrymelichar8851

Putting radiant floor heat in concrete, wouldn't keep up with the rate of cooling. Especially, in a basement, where it would be under the frost line. I certainly wouldn't consider putting all that weight over wood framing. I would treat it like a brick fireplace, as far as support. I like the idea of displacing the bulk of concrete with foam insulating layer. That would serve two purposes. Heat retention, and weight reduction.

Thats a 3-ton tub lol waterproofing no longer needed, but now weight support to hold it from not falling into the basement needs to be thought about...

how do you get to the plumbing if there is a leak?
@robertblahnik

I agree with the heat loss. Plus you would need to sink at least on support post in the crawl space on the "1St" floor.

Is there no thick water proof paint you could coat the entire thing in to prevent heat from disappearing so easily?

I like the concept but am also curious about total weight. I would also ditch the Harbor Freight clamps and use a good Jorgenson 3/4"pipe clamp.

Shouldn't even need to happen. If they had enough brains to use some type of form oil or sealant.

I think it is awesome I do think it would hold up very well and never have to be redone. I like stuff that last for ever kinda cool.

Your a Boss but I would have put in a steel cage around the mold,one inch off the ground and one inch under the mold.Next time more lube on the mold.Also give us the specs on the build in detail.The tub looks strong.

NO MOLD should take that much effort. Use some form oil or better yet wax the damn thing. I work for a modular formwork company and we wouldn't have any customers if it was this much work.
