Just an update. I have successfully backed up the CF card using a 4 GB san disk card and a program called ODIN set to copy every block. I saved it to an .img file and then creaded the new CF card from it. I dont even have the card named the same and it works.
Awesome, thanks for providing the update! When you do a block by block and create the new CF card from that image the new CF card will be the size of the original CF card.
Yes, I need to experiment and just make a .img file. I feel ALOT more comfortable using the scanner now that i have a back up. I was scared to use it until i made a backup.
I would like to make a backup of the modis i recieved. Any tips or tricks would be helpful. Can i just remove memory card while unit it powered off and then copy using the method you described without threat of corrurpting the original card. I have software 14.2. Also what amperage charger is required for these . i rebuilt my battery pack myself and my current charger wont charge battery but will power the modis on. Im assuming over 3 amps
Thanks friend, I feel relieved now that I have a backup copy in case the power cord accidentally pulls out or the battery abruptly runs out. I've heard of these systems turning into bricks because of problems with the disks.
I believe the actual brand Snap On used for CF cards is made by Silicon Systems (industrial grade). if you peel off the Snap On label you can see it. I have a problem with my Modis...it just stopped working one day and gave some kind of CF card error. I tried and tried to "clone" other CF cards, delete and add lines of code in certain BIN files to try to get it to boot up again, but no luck. I can plug a USB mouse to my modis and access Windows CE. Of course, Snap On does NOT support the old Modis so I'm THOUSANDS of dollars out of luck. Is there anyway I could get an image of known working card and plug it in mine? I know there is is a file somewhere in the CF card i could change the serial number to make a match. I would really like to get it working again if not just for the lab scope. HELP...?
My guess based on the size is AA flat top industrial. The label says they're NiMh. The case is thoroughly plastic welded so it'll be a serious struggle for a DIY to open it without damage and close it back up such that it's a nice clean as original fit. I have a tab welder and low temp hot snot gun for rebuilding power tool paks and I passed on DIY for my MODIS battery pak for this reason. MTO Battery will reload your battery pak for $68.95 using modern capacity NiMh cells. They specifically state they don't have cores onhand, so you can't just buy a pak from them, they reload yours.
I got a solus it has the security error . It wont get past the cold boot sys error occurs during software update 1 🤦🏻♂️ . Of corse crap on wont help at all they offer me a new 6k scanner that will crap out in a year or two . Could use sum help please ? There a lot of techs out there are good and pissed at crap on .
Hello, good vid by the way, I have a vantage Pro with 10.2 software and another broken vantage Pro with 16.4 Software. Is there anyway of unlocking the 16.4 cf card to work in my working vantage Pro?
I haven't tried a non-SnapOn CF card - I haven't had the need. However, I would think it'll work as long as it's similar sized. There may be Windows CE limitations for handling larger CF cards. If you try it let us know!
I haven't looked at my MODIS in some time but I think they're really small, like 512MB CF cards. 256GB is way too big, but let us know if it works. I used the 'dd' utility to make the copy but any disk cloning tool should work. Just double check you don't reverse the source and destination disks and I'd also write protect the source disk during the process- I think there's a sliding tab on the disk to do that?
I contacted the seller to see if he had even a dead one lying around, luckily he did. I then had it rebuilt by MTObattery.com. I primarily use the wall plug (aftermarket one for $14 on ebay) but I keep the battery in just in case it comes unplugged or if I moving it around. Still need a battery charger because charging it through the MODIS is very slow.
@@MrBuddysAdventures $68 as of Feb 2024. You do need a battery pak core for them to re-load. Not a bad deal for brandy new NiMh cells. Before I bought a tab welder I used to get Batteries Plus to re-load dead or dying battery paks. Not all their stores do this and MTO Battery seems to specialize in re-loading these tool batteries so I'd go with them on these. The experience is worth paying for. Just food for thought. New modern cells have much higher power density than the one and two decade old cells did when new. The last 7 cell AA pak I welded up had dying 900mah NiMh AA cells... the replacement flat top industrial NiMh AA cells were more than double the capacity at 2400mah each. Runtime is extended noticeably.
for solus ultra sd card (no inner one the one software ) and image cloner made it works REdiculus the tool being paid no more update mine goes to 12.4 and stuck there useless now :( this is fraud
