Looks great - display cabinets are atrociously overpriced and expensive. I love your ingenuity and vision with this. Would love to see the acrylic attached next and you give us a tour once you fill it up with merch and figures! Definitely need a final tour video.
God, I wish that brand shipped internationally. I would really love to have that corner racking. I'm pretty sure there's no other corner shelf like that other than the steel wire ones. Really awesome and professional display, good sir!
Corner racks like this just don't seem to exist stateside. 3 years since this video dropped and I've never been able to get them. The only possible option seems to be eBay, and the reviews/sellers leave a lot to be desired.
@@JurassicCollectables Yeah, that Triangle shaped piece looks perfect for my 2 foot tall Omnimon G.E.M. statue. Plus I can always adjust the height of the shelves if I want. Don't know if I'll be using that in my mancave, but I hope I can.
nice display i wish u linked the materials.... i think the felt fabric is the material choice to go with on a display. Also for the back panels pvc foam boards will do it justice.
Ah that's really made my day to hear. I am happy to report years later it is still standing strong, needs low maintenance. Good luck with your build, I'd love to see what you come up with!
I tried to get one of these corner racks for 6 months, and it is just not possible to get it in the US, unfortunately. That said, I'm just getting 3 standard racks and I'm going to put backboards and stuff on them and paint them in order to make it look better for display. This video did introduce me to the idea though, so thank you.
I'm really curious to see what it looks like with your collection on the shelf. I use a lot of metal racking for my displays now as well. I'm always looking for ways to improve it though and even make it more immersive.
@@JurassicCollectables Have the 2 piece shelf coming Friday or Saturday. I want it "air tight" so no dust can get in and also so can't see the framing, so might try mount back panels on the inner side to cover them. If do Acrylic doors then will look into added door framing so cover shelf framing. See how it goes. Baby steps! I think yours works seeing the framing since its Dinosaurs so is like they are in dino cages. I'm starting to collect Comic Sideshow and Prime 1 statues.
Did you ever put those Acrylic panels on the front of the rack and the wooden panels you said you were going to be doing next? If you did can you share your results??
@@JurassicCollectables Thank you. I'm currently still sourcing out the materials. Where did you find the speaker box carpets? I'm trying to see where I can find the best prices for these. Looking at Home Depot and Amazon. The prices probably gone up quite a bit because I find the costs are a bit more expensive than I imagined. Namely the storage shelves that I am looking at.
@@yauyuso ebay was where I found the speaker fabric - but I can't find the original seller at the moment. I went for the speaker liner fabric because it was cheaper but still had a decent thickness. You want to look for racking - most brands will do but consider the weight of the objects you want to display. Most racking will hold considerable weight if constructed correctly.
@@johanrodriguez8274 should be fine as long as it has some thickness to it. Perhaps test on an offcut first, and try and lay the glue evenly, dont use too much so it soaks the fabric. Good luck
Yes - the height and number of shelves is completely how you build it, so you can accommodate any height within the racking upper limit. I see the Prime 1/3 scale is approx 105cm for Superman, the racking is 180cm tall in total, so you'd have roughly 60-70cm left spare.
Good video and what a gorgeous display you've made! I particularly liked the corner piece. Thank you for the great idea's. I've just started collecting and am looking to build a smaller display to start with to work with my space.
That looks fantastic, can’t wait to see the whole display. One thing I do when I apply PVA to flat surfaces is I use a paint roller. Seems to work very well and there’s less mess. I suppose you could use a clean roller to press the fabric down too.
Perhaps another option with lighting I might look at is drill a small hole in shelf boards where you want the lights and pre-lay wiring up and under the above carpet/fabric before gluing it down and out the back. I image the fabric is thick enough you won't see it under it.
Yeah thats a great idea. You could make your boards modular. The way Ive designed mine is to maximise dismantling, moving and rebuilding somewhere else if needs be. But Im sure theres a million new ways to attack each problem and improve on it!
well I made one. Bloody awesome video you posted. Am really pleased with mine. sourced the puck lights and fasteners and voila...done. Making a second!
Excellent video & explanation! I have been looking for a solution such as this, very handsome. Do you think it would be strong enough to hold polystone statues?
Great question - I'll be using it to support heavy resin statues so I hope so. If you think about it's purpose - racking is quite often used for heavy tools or equipment so I think it should do the job. If in doubt check the weight limit on the specs for the racking you choose
ive been getting used china cabinets for mine lol this is really cool can't wait for the glass instal wondering if your going to use hinges for ease of access? please tell us your total cost when its done :)
That's an awesome idea! Are the shelves adjustable? Can you purchase extra shelves separately? I'm redoing my toy room and I need shelves, I was looking at Ikea but it can get expensive.
I havent looked in to extra shelves but I guess you could if you contact the supplier! The number on display here is the full set included. With two at the very bottom for smaller items
@@JurassicCollectables Awesome, thanks :) I'll have to keep an eye out for those. I hope you are going to do a video of when you have your collection all displayed on them!
This is awesome mate, so simple and elegant for the use! I've actually shared it with the museum I volunteer at, they're extending and part rebuilding so it'll be a great option :D I'm gonna look for another video of what else you've done to it-backing and acrylic
Ah thank you! Please let me know how it goes - I'd love to see photos when it's done. Also here's the acrylic glazing video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J4PEEZYu1dM.html
@@JurassicCollectables my pleasure mate. I contacted the management, was told funds include display cabinets but building work always goes over budget by a lot, I'm surprised. Anyway, she continued to say they may need temporary display cabinets for the mobile museum or something and said this is similar to what's needed, so you obviously did well conceiving and making these. Watching you strip the plastic lining of the acrylic in that vid I was thinking if you remembered the other side haha :') why did you cover the display from the left where the door is may I ask? :)
@@clevelandexplorer2221 Yes fortunately I removed the film from both sides - its quite hard to see through the blue plastic so you can't miss it really. But I did skip both sides in the video doh! I covered the end of the display to make it feel more of an enclosed cabinet. I could have glazed it like the front but once it's stained I think it will add a bit of class to an otherwise industrial style racking... that's the hope anyway!
