Polystone and Polystone Care:
-------------------
-What is Polystone?
Polystone is a compound made up largely of polyurethane resin mixed with powdered stone additives to give a stone-like finish. Polystone has a stone like feel, but is much easier to sculpt. It is more cost effective and less heavy than traditional stone media. Polystone is a manufacturing medium used for cast sculptures, it is hard to find one that delivers a cleaner, more substantial representation of an original sculpture than a product manufactured in Polystone. Polystone has a significant weight, a porcelain like feel to the touch, and an incredible ability to capture the most minute detail, making it unsurpassed in collectible manufacturing materials. Polystone does not have to be fired like porcelain, which gives it much more flexibility in painting variations.
-Why do I have to clean my polystone Statue or Bust?
One of the main issues for collectors that display their Polystone pieces is dust. Dust attracts oils and other contaminants from the air that will eventually cause discoloring to your polystone statue or bust if left unchecked.
-How do you remove dust without destroying my polystone statue or bust?
Always take the time to dust your statues and busts on a regular basis. A camera lens brush is great to whisk dust from the delicate areas, as well as from the hard to reach areas and fine details of a statue. If you don’t have a camera lens brush, a very soft, medium sized paint brush can also be used. Next, follow up the dusting with a blast of compressed air which can be purchased from your local office supply store. When using compressed air hold the can upright. Caution: It is very important not to shake the can while spraying because this will cause the liquid in the can to spray out and possibly damage your collectible permanently.
-Can I wash my polystone statue or bust, or use a wet cloth on them?
You should never wash or submerge your collectible in water. If for any reason you find your polystone piece is excessively dusty, the recommendations above should work to get your collectible back to show condition. If you absolutely need to, you can also use a damp, lint-free cloth on the larger areas as well as the bases to loosen up the dust. Dampen the cloth with water but never use harsh chemical cleaners because the chemicals have the potential to permanently damage the paint finish and even the polystone material. Polystone pieces should be displayed in environments that have an even consistent room temperature. Extreme temperature changes, UV from sunlight, and moisture can affect the integrity and surface quality of your statue or bust.
-Can I display my polystone statue or bust collection near a heating or air conditioning vent?
Your collection should not be displayed in such areas because of the inconsistent room temperature. The statue or bust surface or integrity could be affected. Keep your collectibles in a consistent environment.
-Will the sunlight affect the paint on my figures if I display them in a window?
Long term exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays will damage your statue or bust paint as well as the finish over time. All displays should not be in areas around or next to windows. General electric indoor lighting will not affect the paint quality of your polystone collectibles.

Great tips. Not so much for displaying, but a tip I would suggest when cleaning your shelves/displays for dusting and whatnot, never.... never place your props temporarily on the floor, or even on a crowded table! I'm embarrassed to say that I've stepped on a prop and have also accidentally brushed a prop off a table because the surface was cluttered. Big facepalm.

I’ve pulled them out onto the floor too. Always terrifying.

5 great points. The amount of collectors I tell about the first two is unbelievable 😳 As for the last point ( dust) you be surprised how many still have open displays due to space. Anyway fantastic points that every collector should take notice of. 😊

I’m far too clumsy to display my collectibles outside of a case. Plus I like the way it looks with the glass or acrylic over it. Another place I would recommend not to display your collectibles if they are statues are IKEA Detolfs . The glass on them can be prone to just randomly shattering, and that’s with just 1/6th figures. So I definitely wouldn’t risk placing a much heavier statue on a glass shelf of a $60 case with all that weight !

Agree 💯...... it’s more hassle to setup yes but it’s so worth it in the end. Plus it looks sooooo much better in enclosed cases. Not related but I’ve seen other collections out in the open on shelves etc and some of them overtime get so cluttered that you can’t decipher what’s what. Having them in display cases can help restrict ‘statue sprawl’😉

Im rocking the detolf for my power rangers collection currently but my stuff is relatively light. The slightly heavier stuff I use the very bottom eg. White ranger sworld, zord and move morpher. The rest is for solo helmets 😎

Thanks for that tip. I was actually thinking of buying some of those ikea detolfs but never thought about what you mentioned. I barely started collecting 1/6 figures from sideshow.

I would imagine that running and hiding a air purifier would be a bit of a challenge but it would definitely have some advantages in the long run 🤔. Thank you for the advice kev and keep them coming 😁

Does anyone here have any suggestions for displaying 1/4 Neca figures or just 1/4 figures in general? I’m looking for a way to protect them from dust

Ikea options: billy shelves with morliden doors. Or, you can look into some Detolfs.

@@kevdeovideo I appreciate the response. I was considering a glass detolf, but I’m worried that the weight of the figures might shatter the glass shelves, especially with the added display stand
