Making a Cottagecore Pinafore Dress for Historybounding // One-day Project FAIL

Is it 1840s? 1900s? 1950s? I've been on a bit of a historybounding kick lately, and wanted a new dress that I could easily slot into my existing wardrobe, which would give me those springtime cottagecore vibes, and be perfect for historybounding.
Enter -- a gingham pinafore dress, inspired by the 1840's shirred front dresses, a 1900's aesthetic, and a 1950's shape. Somehow, in my mind, this multi-purpose jumper dress was supposed to be a one day project.... that wound up taking five days. Whoops!
Purchase the pattern for this dress here: www.etsy.com/l...
This is the purple gingham fabric I used (and there's lots of other colorways available too!): www.amazon.com...

“It went on totally fine and therefore it should also be able to come off” is SUCH a mood and also how I end up doing my blow up plastic man dance when I get stuck in clothes that are halfway off me XD this dress turned out ADORABLE and let’s be real, it still embodies the spirit of a one day make~!

I would love love a pattern of this dress!! Also, just wanted to note that I love videos like this, that showcase possible mistakes and explain how you deal with them. As a semi-experienced sewer, I know I will always make mistakes when constructing, and so seeing how such issues can be dealt with is far more helpful to me than a video that just shows a bunch of successes! Thank you for putting out this content 🥰

Well that was quite an emotional tour. To be fair though, sudden piping must have slowed you down. The end result is sooo cute! I just adore it (and Lion). Very pretty indeed. Husband says he thinks the waist looks fine and loves the neckline. X

This would be so cute with simple smocking instead of the ruching. Gingham is the ideal fabric to smock since you don't need to mark it. And it makes such a cute way to gather.

I've never understood people who can make a dress in one day. It usually takes me that long just to complete the cutting out stage, nevermind actual sewing. 😆 Your dress turned out wonderfully, despite evil zippers. And that skirt is made for twirling! Plus your dog howling at the sirens made me laugh. My cockatiel "talks" to sirens as well, and since I live only a couple blocks from a fire station as well as a hospital he gets plenty of chances to "talk" to them. 😉

Oh yeahRebecca, I will definitely buy a copy of the pattern for that dress. I don't often wear dresses, but I have a soft soft spot for pinafores, especially a pinny with a ruched and piped bodice and sweetheart neckline. So much dressy goodness wrapped up into one garment.

I'm going start calling you the piping queen because piping is clearly your life right now, lol. I love how this dress came out. It is, as Rachel Maksy would put it, the chef's kiss. Its beautiful and looks amazing on you. I would love to have a pattern for one for myself. You might have to look into copyright laws before you do to avoid any issues with MaCall's. I'm just totally in love with this dress and i don't normally like pinafore type dresses but this one is just gorgeous. 😍😍❤❤

I came upon this video after it had been posted for 55 minutes. It took me what felt like 5 days to get to watch it, which I finally did, last night at 2 in the morning. This is a BEAUTIFUL pattern. Yes, please, when you get pattern making/selling figured out. I have a surprising pile of sheer plaids and ginghams in my stash. In fact, I am in the last stages of making a dark brown and navy plaid skirt that is sheer enough to see the patterns on my table cloth if the light is just right. Like your skirt, mine is also pretty darn full, but I may be making a petticoat to go under it. I had to buy more zippers to finish it, because I lost my one and only navy zipper just as I was going to sew it in -- I still haven't found that thing. One day Failure but Five day Success! Love this!!
