Both the knight and the dragon are broke? This sounds like the perfect opportunity for a fraudulent dragon removal service! Just go from town to town with the dragon, have her roost nearby, and offer your dragon-killing services for an insane price.

That's basically the plot of the first act of the first DragonHeart movie from 1996: "Disillusioned knight Bowen befriends Draco, the last of the dragons, and the two begin scamming village folk as Bowen repeatedly "kills" Draco for money." There's more plot as well but nothing related to the comment. Also Draco is voiced by _Sean Connery_ , which I'm just now learning after watching this movie dozens of times when I waa younger, and am absolutely in love with. Just imagine the voice of James Bond coming from the mouth of a big ole dragon with a head that seems just a bit too large at times The cgi is a bit dated and I may be a bit nostalgic but I'm sure the series is at least decent in some ways.
