This week I look at making a Diegetic UI.
Diegetic UI is UI made to look like it is entirely part of the game’s narrative. It is something that the character would interact with in their world. If it exists in the physical space of the video game, and is something the character could interact with, it is considered Diegetic UI (Andrews, 2010).
After Looking at Arcadian Rift's Gun Counter I decided I could recreate this in the Godot Game engine. To add a bit of extra challenge I decided to set a time of ten minutes to do it!

The Ammo counter has been around for a long time and making it in godot is relatively simple using a viewport and rendering it to a texture.

That was really nice! Love to see how quickly you grabbed the parts and put them together. Maybe a challenge could be to make a portal (like in Portal)? More fun with Viewports :D

I guess it's personal. Signals keep things neat and contained imo. If it works, it works. I think it's really up to you how you want to go about it and what works for your project

Great video! I have a request if at all possible! Not sure if you have ever played Albion Online but in that game some of the enemy abilities are telegraphed on the ground. The telegraph will fill up in response to the cast time of the particular ability. Was wondering if you could make a tutorial recreating that in Godot? Here is a vid for reference: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ysG7mzZ2Ev8.html You can see the red shape on the ground that fills up as the boss casts the ability. Also the red shape conforms to the terrain so it shows regardless of the shape or slope of the underlying terrain. Something that I thought I would see if could make a tutorial on it, if not, all good :) Thanks!
