This is the only video on string making I've seen on RU-vid...out of dozens...that twists the strings counter clockwise, then crosses them clockwise lol. All of the others twist to the right (clockwise), then twists them left (counterclockwise). Functionally it's completely irrelevant as long as the twists are consistent...I just thought it was interesting. Great video, thank you for sharing.

Before just accepting I’ll have to only make endless loop strings I watched this video, followed to a T what you said, and had success!!! Thank you for taking the time to make this. I Built my jig with a "plan" I found online. The measures on it weren't ok for the string length... I just tried to modify the "inches numbers"... I tried to build a few strings (WOW I AM SOOOOO PROUD, LOL, even if I made a few mistakes, like usual I wanted to do everything too fast, LOL). They are not too bad, but I struggle (but I will learn, lol) where to start the twists on the thread bundles to build the loops on them, and at the proper length/place.. Hard to explain, my English is not that good. Thanks a MILLION for this video, I really appreciate it, it is the best I've seen on the net !!

Jason, I have been making endless loop bowstrings for a very long time and they work well but decided to start making Flemish Twist strings. I watched a lot of videos on the subject and decided to suck it up and spend an hour on yours. I found it to be time well spent as your attention to detail and the fine points is appreciated. Also I had a plan that I had pulled off the net somewhere a few years back and it looks identical to yours, although I’m sure the dimensions vary. Thanks for a nicely done video.

Jason, I know this is an older video, but just wanted to thank you for all the essentially free content you put out on RU-vid and on the podcast. Just got a NM Classic (went with a takedown) and attempted my first string tonight. It actually came out as good as I could have hoped, first try. I'm just using wool yarn as silencers, but I will probably try the combo you use if I don't like how this performs in the rain. Again, thanks for the content and this is (along with some of Clay's videos) the best string making vid on RU-vid. I hope some day to get to shoot with you now that you are moving closer down my way (I'm north of you in NC). Maybe you can start going to the Howard Hill Classic and we can shoot with Steve some. Looking forward to potentially some southern Appalachia hunting content in the future!

I also DIY my own flemish strings. Fact is I don’t shoot other made strings at all. When I purchase or trade for a new/new-to-me bow I hang the original string on a nail & make a new one before ever stringing it. My preferred string is a B50 Dacron with 3 bundles of 5 strands...sounds like an odd number but they turn out much rounder & seem to stretch less. Good vid.👍🏻👍🏻

Hello from Idaho. You have informative videos. My home brew string jig is very similar to yours which made me very interested to see your technique. Like you, I have a mark on my jig for the loop starting point at exactly 9 inches. A step yoou might consider is to scrape the tips of your string bundles with a knife or a razor blade to fray the string tips a bit. This makes a difference on how smoothly the string bundle tapers down, moving away from the loops. I like your suggestion on making the loop on the bottom limb fit tightly. I'm going to do that from now on. I add back twists (30) to my string bundles before making the second loop. But, instead of 30 twists I'm going to try 20 next time. I had a heck of a time getting consistent and repeatable string lengths before I really paid attention to small details like the 9 inch loop starting point and the exact size of the loops. For string stretching I mounted a ratcheting boat trailer winch onto a 2x6 with a hook about 6 feet away from the winch. Stretching overnight with a good amount of tension is very effective. Thanks for the videos. No fluff and no music is good.

When I made my jig, I labeled my first nail as zero, and then 1, 2, 3 etc. So then I just wrap around until my string comes across the nail labeled for the desired number of strands. I think you are accomplishing the same thing with your last wrap around. I'm not saying my method is better. But it seems simpler to me.

The marks I made will probably not line up with yours. That's why they don't write anything on them. Everyone twists differently. Only way to figure it out is to twist up a string and these see how too long or 2 short it is and move the peg. Make another onento verify and then mark the hole. But if you email me thru my website tbwpodcast.com I will send you pics of my markings to get you started

Jason, are you still using B-55 on your bows for the 2022 season? I like the feel of the bow in my hand after releasing with fastflite but don’t like the twangy noise. Dacron is so much quieter and I think going extra in strands than recommended makes it less shocks in hand after release.

@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 3 года назад
Honestly I prefer more twists then not enough twists. And I have never noticed a difference in how many twists matter. I dont have an exact answer for you. Bit if it bothers you, make another one a little shorter now that you know how. Or use same length hole but add another quarter inch to the tag ends before you make your end loops. For serving I wait until I jave the string at the correct brace height then serve it.
@ryukage6695
@ryukage6695 3 года назад
@@SamkoTradBow then you for the reply. I did twist until I was at the proper brace height and then sever it, but had to twist down a couple inches before that. Do you normally wait a day for the string to stretch/settle in before serving it?

@SamkoTradBow 3 года назад
@@ryukage6695 yes usually I make a string and leave it on the bow over night then serve it the next day. You don't have to. But that's what I do. I think a couple hours on the bow is enough to stretch it enough to serve it.

Jason can you speak to why you chose Dacron for some bows and a modern “fast flight” material for others?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 4 года назад
I shot darxon on all my vows for many years. About 10 years ago switched to fast flight for all the reasons people like it. When I started shooting a classic hill style bow I thought it might be fitting to go back to dacron. Once I did I really like the quietness and feel in the bow hand. So now on all my bows I'm shooting dacron and loving it. But I have to make more strings. With darcon I'm going thru 2-3 strings a year where with ff I would be 1-2 strings a year. But to me worth it. Not to mention (but not a reason I chose dacron) its so much softer and gentle on the bow.

Why do my bundles after the loop wanting to keep untwisting when I string my bow?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 2 года назад
You jave your loops going opposite ways. Need to make sure you are twisting in same directions for both top and bottom loops when you make them so thry lock into each other rather that try ro untwist each other. For the record I still screw this up occasionally as well.

@SamkoTradBow

I dont think you can hurt the bow by having to many twists. i have seen strings super loose and super tight. I dont think it matters much. but if its too tight for your liking just make another one. I have had to trash a few strings because I made it longer or shorter than i want.
