Everything is looking good! I love the bamboo sides idea, love the way that looks. Those battery operated chainsaws are fantastic. It's very high on my list as well! Take good care, Stacy! Happy gardening
Not only is the bamboo free it is also a renewable resource. It grows quickly and if we aren't careful will take over a very large space. You should have plenty for years to come. Your garden bed looks great.
I love seeing our " KIWI MUM"show casing our beautiful lush forest resources and our rich soil, nothing can ever compare to our can-do attitude, and our HARD MAHI, keep up the great work, enjoying your channel from Sth Auckland, Mangere East, Kia Kaha.
Have you tried chicken soup fertiliser? Place chook poop in a large container, fill with water, leave for a few weeks to cook, then water your fruit and vegetables with it! Our plants grew so big! They loved it, especially the lemon tree and the rhubarb
Last november, we bought strawberry plants somewhere between nelson and takaka, $2 a plant...couldnt find plants in stores anywhere...they were in a box driving all the way down the west coast, across arthurs pass to christchurch, up the east coast to nelson, acriss the strait, all the way back to gizzy! 😂Well traveled! They then grew the fattest, tastiest strawberries! I need to replant them for this year😊
Those sure were well-travelled strawberries! I'm glad they turned out great for you. There was a shortage last year, hopefully its not the same again this year :_
Thank you for sharing your garden with us, I loved seeing the bamboo bed build, great idea! It must feel so good to finally be able to be gardening again, nothing as satisfying as getting your hands in the dirt and seeing the bountiful results! (critters and weather permitting...) 🍓🌿🥰 Just don't push yourself too hard, take it slow!
Look at all that lovely bamboo!!! Good job 👏 👍 I finally got around to trying that battery can opener. It works!! Its not fast, but sure does save the hands!!! And....they (temu) also have a little hand chain saw...it looks like a tiny skipping rope, and would be perfect for tackling that bamboo. ❤
Hello Stacey, forget to say in your plum jam video, your farm is an absolutely stunning property and your cows and sheep look exceptional. Thanks for showing us ❤
Loved watching your -real life - as opposed to insta ready video. I sometimes use thick layers of newspaper instead of cardboard, it seems to work just as well. I top it with well rotted homemade (if I've got enough) compost & then a bit of bought in - to about 10 cm/4 inches all together & plant in that (see Charles Dowding blogs/RU-vid). What summer - it's about 12 degrees C & raining hard here but it should be in the 20's with at least some sunshine - even here in the UK 😂. T.
I love watching and reading Charles Dowding. I have learned so much from him over the years. Gosh, those are some rough temperatures for you guys for summer!
Hi Stacey. I brought battery operated secueters. Game changer for cutting bamboo. I use a reciprocating saw for anything too big to cut with the secueters.
I have a whole bunch of battery operated tools from Mitre10. The same batteries fit in each, and I've got two batteries - one came with myvweed water, and one with my blower. Then I got a chainsaw, and the same batteries fit it. Chain saw is a proper chain saw, rather than the smaller one handed ones I've been seeing in online ads. Now I have small saw envy.
Oh yes, I have a pole chainsaw and a smaller hand version. Ryobi is the ones I got from Bunnings. =-) Loove them. Don't know if they would work on bamboo, Loppers might be better. I've got a Fiskers pole lopper thing which Adrian in Gisbourne showed. It's brilliant. Like you I have to be careful with how I work and this is a gamechanger. No more climbing trees lol. I use newspaper when I don't have cardboard, I really like this way of gardening. Yours is looking great =-)
My brother in law has a Ryobi gardening saw / pruner , I think that is the sort of thing that might be of intrest to you , it has a battery which can attach to other Ryobi tools . Also I planted chives and garlic amongst my strawberry and I’am convinced that I got less bugs eating them
Those mini chainsaws are so handy for tree pruning etc. Mine came straight from Shanghai. I got a 6 inch which was about A$20 and an 8 inch which cost a bit more. Never thought of using bamboo as a bed border but do cut some for stakes. Great video Stacey.
Well done Stacey! The bamboo edging on the strawberry bed looks lovely and the seedlings certainly look very healthy. Love your lavender coloured beanie. Enjoying the Kiwi content from across the ditch where it's also cold and windy lol
Thank you, at first I was like oh I can't film with my old beanie on and then I thought I'm getting older now so tough, I'm ok with not looking perfect all the time. Not meant in a bad way.
You KNOW I love your outdoor vids! Your property is so gorgeous! Your little strawberry patch is adorable and "naughty me" would be out there once they started producing and eating them all before you could make anything with them LMAO! And what a Dear Husband is for fixing your wheelbarrow and helping you out - WE LOVE HIM!!! While you are experiencing your "Crisp Fall" here in north Central Texas it is hotter than Hades (right now at 4PM it is currently 104, with a heat index of 117 degrees, I cannot be bothered to figure the Celsius but it doesn't really matter because it's just TOO HOT!) Hope you all are well, Love & BIG HUGS to you and Husband!
OH, my sweet friend, you can keep that hot weather. When we lived in Perth Australia we got those temps and I would rather be by the fire and read a good book lol. I am hoping you get some cooler weather soon. Much love to you :)
The bamboo bed does look cute. We have a Ryobi battery chainsaw, and we're gradually changing over all our power tools to the same brand so that we only need a couple of batteries to swap between all of them. The chainsaw has been a godsend to be honest. Whenever I separate eggs for the yolks, I freeze the whites in little bags to pull out when I need them.
Like your use of bamboo in your garden bed. We cut larger diameter bamboo add built a 3 rail fence around our little garden. Seems to last a long time and it has kept the deer out.
Hi Stacey :-) looking great... just a suggestion about cutting things for the garden, Ryobi does a battery pruning shears and they are great, makes work so easy. PLEASE PLEASE don't get a battery chainsaw... we have been watching reviews on those and they are so dangerous... there is no helping your limbs if it kicks back... stay safe.. 👍👍🤗🤗
I’m in Australia and we use all Milwaukee Tool battery operated tools. We have the baby chainsaw and I’m taking it to my wisteria tomorrow. Its absolutely brilliant. My two sons are absolutely Milwaukee Tool aficionados. They will not buy anything else. Milwaukee Tool has some great sales too. My son found one for my daughter. Saved her a heap of money. If you buy the same brand of tools it saves so much on batteries. Milwaukee Tool all the way. I don’t have any affiliation with them. They are just a great product across the board. If you buy the same brand of tool the batteries all fit each tool. You can’t go past Milwaukee.
I love my small, battery-operated chain saw! It's been really useful for cutting up fallen tree branches after our recent storms. I'm impressed (but not surprised) that you are such a good steward of your land. Saving the earthworms meant your strawberry bed took a lot more effort to put in, and the worms obviously have no idea how close they came to the end of days, so I'll be grateful on their behalf. Your designer strawberry patch was a great idea and it turned out perfectly, without any fatal consequences for the local.subterranean wildlife. Everybody wins!
Love that you are sharing real life gardening. Meringues look yummy enjoy. I grow my strawberries in hanging baskets right outside my kitchen , love the bamboo around the garden bed
I really like the bamboo bed. It is cute. Fresh strawberries are my favorite. We had a big strawberry patch when I was growing up. I remember going with my momma to pick them. They were so good; sweet and warm from the morning sunshine 🍓
I know what you mean watching gardens from over the other side of the world. Great to see someone doing the same as me at the same time. Do you have a glasshouse?
Hi Stacey, I love what you did with the Bamboo, you are going to have so many beautiful Strawberries this coming Summer. I look forward to seeing all the cooking you will be doing with them. Thank you for sharing your days in the garden with us.
Just got home after 13 hrs out (husband had partial knee replacement -5 months early) an even though I'm exhausted your video popped up and it made my day!!! The garden is great!
Hi Stacey you are such a handy lady the beds look great. Oh I was in Kmart today and they now have the silicone containers with lids for freezer meals $6.😊
Hi Stacey ..yes your country side looks beautiful❣️We are looking forward to moving back to hubbies home town,Te Akau, from WA...AND also looking forward to gardening back in NZ! Another great video❤
@@FarmersWifeHomestead I use my battery one to go cut firewood for the winter. I have the electric hand pruners and two different size chain saws. My husband has a gas chainsaw. I do have multiple batteries for them. If you get one I would get two batteries for it. I enjoy pruning my orchard now.
Love your channel , so interesting! I brought my husband a battery chain saw and he loved it . Makes light work . Iucky in the uk I ordered from Amazon
It is a pity we don't have a bridge between us as I have a stack of cardboard boxes to get rid off. I should be sitting here cutting them up to stuff in the recycle bin when this fortnight's bin goes in the morning so that I can race the rest of the family as there are 7 of us filling the two bins each fortnight. I had another box arrive this morning to add the dozen I already have... 😭 Then probably another one on its way as I shop online these days as does the rest of the family, so lots of boxes keep coming... It has been a few years now since I used to run a large garden bed, in fact most of my tiny back yard was just beds of veggies growing to make ends meet, plus it saved carrying groceries home each week in the bus as I have never driven a car so it was always shanks' pony as my mother used to say!!
Hi Stacey. I am a kiwi living in Australia and I really enjoy your videos as I miss my home country and your farm and kitchen and ways of doing things bring back wonderful memories of my life there. I have a question about the instant pot. I ask here because there are so many comments on your instant pot videos that you won’t find this, I reckon :) Anyway I want to finally buy a multi cooker ….wish I had one when I was raising my 4 children. After you have used it what is your opinion now. I would love to buy a ninja foodie but just can’t justify the cost. Thank you and happy farming xx
@hilarywallace3007 Hello and thanks for reaching out. I am actually just in the middle of filming an update for everyone. I LOVE it. I've used it almost daily in one way or another. I have even worked around the slow cooker function issues. So go for it, having a multi-cooker/pressure cooker is wonderful and like you, I wished I had one when bringing up my six kiddos. Some of my daughters are getting them too and loving them. The comments from that video should help you decide which one will be great :)
@@FarmersWifeHomestead thank you for your quick reply. My daughter has a ninja foodie and I am housesitting for her atm. What a wonderful machine…she has 4 kids over the age of 10 so it’s wonderful for her. Looking forward to your next video. :)
@sherriefeickert-carty4611 It was gifted to my husband, many years ago. I know it came from Rotorua, he then gifted it to me when he knew at a time that I needed it more. It is very treasured to me :)
