Just a little plumber advice : If you want to bend tubes, put sand in it before you bend it. It will prevent tube from pinching when you bend it too narrowly

Yeah this is one of the channels which really got me into tinkering and wanting to build my own small engines. I'm working on designing and 3D printing a single-cylinder, pushrod, 2-stroke pneumatic engine right now (that was a long name lol).

3:48 altho expensive, you should pick up one of those aluminium "brazing" rod kits for stuff like this. Would allow you to make genuine looking exhausts out of aluminium. Also, TIP, when you bend stuff, you should try and find the nearest size of silicone rod to stuff inside the bend. Should help with collapsing quite a bit. Tuff string should work too, but a hardened silicone rod is better (they're usually used as fillers or as seals). And a silicone mat under the drill press will prevent it from "walking away" when you drill stubborn stuff that makes it vibrate.

Subarus sound unique because of the horizontally opposed cylinder setup and the timing used. Almost all well done professional headers have equal lengths of tubing for each cylinder but as we know they don’t all sound like a Subaru 😄

Wow what a difference adding a more full exhaust and a resonator makes! Not sure what change there would be with a full on muffler, but just that resonator on the back has made this the best sounding nitro RC engine I've ever heard, gonna be an awesome machine when it's up and running

That v8 sound you were hearing is exactly what a flat plane inline four sounds like with a low idle and a free flowing exhaust. Its a bit different than a v8 but the rumble is great.

Small sugestion for bending tubes that are in sight: fill it with fine dry sand and clamp the ends shut, and use some grease. Love the work and effort to document it all, looks great! Nice cnc parts too!!

"does it sound like a V8?" it should be possible to make it sound like a V4 for sure. even like a V2. not sure if it's possible to make it sound like a V8. but still. you need to play with exhaust pipe/tube lenghts to make sound come out earlier/later. for example take the pattern of some V4 engine. see in what order the cylinders have ignition and see the time in between each ignitions. then see the speed of sound, how it goes in tubes and do the math. in the end it should be possible to calculate the lenght of each exhaust pipe the way that it would sound as if it is a V4. Such a trick is being successfully done on a full size motors (I know of one motorcycle with such an exhaust), should be possible to do it on the smaller scale as well. =)

You could use the 4 x 2 x 1 system, you would have more advantage in this project, the gases would be better propelled, differently from a 4x1 system that will probably give back the gases at the exit. Instead of Muffler's, you would use the snail system, which consists of a group of curves that force the gases to expel.

Epic build. Love your work. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere though, the little brass ferrule on your servo is upside down. The washer part of it is supposed to go up against whatever it is you are mounting it on. In this case your 3D printed mount. It's to stop it from cutting the mounting surface when you tighten it down. The other side is protected by the washer on the screw head. Just thought I'd let you know. Build on Good Sir :)

Great as always! My only criticism if I may is the muffler/exhaust pipe joints. The flow rate is significantly effected if the exhaust pipe ends inside the muffler are not flash with the walls of the muffler. I suggest to re-visit the muffler and machine off the excess of the pipes and seal it outside the chamber. It will give you even better sound and way better flow rate of the exhaust system.

I will comment for the first time. The reason for watching your video was Model pocket Jet Engine. I like all the projects, but I like the RC series the most. I would like to see in your video the RC of the structure like a real car created from the frame with pipes and carbon fiber reinforced-carbon matrix-composite. Exhaust sounds wonderful! It probably sounds like a V8 at idle cuz it's most likely idling at double the speed a normal 4 cylinder would.

Loctite makes a high temp thread locker that would be good for exhaust joints. They also make a high temp thread sealant but I do not think it dries. Loving the build. I have a sick set of rockstar rims wrapped in p1 tires I bought for a build and never used.

You can add some steel wool or fiberglass batting to the muffler, it will increase the lower tones of the engine. This is done in speaker cabinets all the time with poly fill.

Awesome as usual! One thing i would like to see, would be a big muffler made out of can aluminium, or thin stainless sheets, basically to give it that extra resonancing sound. And also try to make a straight pipe thru that muffler with holes drilled in them to see what difference that makes in sound too! :D

Change your tolerances, throw a pipe in the freezer and flange in boiling water, then press them together. Makes for a much stronger joint than just a flare.
