Making a geodesic dome chair for the new deck.

In this episode, I upcycle the deck boards that I removed from the deck when I extended it recently.
Karl over at Karl Pope woodcraft recently put out a challenge to make a chair. I thought I could make one using the old deck boards.
Make sure you check out all the other entries into the challenge.
I decided to make a chair based on a geodesic dome. so I got my plan sorted then started working down the old boards to the size I needed.
The chair did not come together as well as I had hoped it would. I think my accuracy needs to be improved a bit to pull everything in a bit tighter.
It's actually a really comfortable seat so although I'm not completely happy with how it came out it will get well used in the summer.

You did everything right but the bevel angle is wrong, You did 74° and 72° (16° and 18° on saw) this is the angle for the ends of struts. For bevel angles you need 9° on all edges of the equilateral triangle and the bottom of the isosceles then 11° on the sides of the isosceles.

Wow thanks Paul. That's where I have went wrong! That's some great information. I have pinned it so that others who might find it useful can hopefully find it easier. Many thanks 👍

Hi Paul I must say you are a very talented and smart man but I have an issue with a dome that I am trying to make I bought one of your books and I have tried contacting you several times I know you have the answers I'm looking for I have the money to buy your plans I have tried that to so I don't understand why you will respond to some people but you can't help someone who can be a potential customer that being said I have followed your channel for more than 2years that when you respond to this video in a very polite way that's no way to keep customers I am just one man that liked domes I thank your work is amazing but I'm not going to ask you anything else let me just say that's no way to run a business but it's your business to run how you see fit that's all thanks for absolutely nothing

"You what I want... a chair with ALL the angles in it" Sounded like a great idea Im sure and even though it didn't come out exactly as planned it is brilliant proof of concept. Kudos for setting yourself such a challenge and honestly it looks epic as is. Well done.
