Making beautiful things with your own two hands gives so much peace in this fast world. Your books are made with love and care. You don’t need loud, flashy, bright effects, you don’t need to chat, to talk, to advertise. We sit and watch and are in awe. Thank you very much for sharing this piece of art. In times where everything needs to be fast, cheap and easy, I hope we never loose crafty people like you.
Bless your hands sir, that was a lovely journey with you. I am so happy people still making quality books and journal like that , I just love it so much a beautiful art indeed.
Oh, this is just beautiful! In this increasingly fast paced world full of factory mass production lines how absolutely wonderful to watch your exquisite craftsmanship. Slow, gentle, methodical and meticulous. This is clearly a skill that has been honed over many years. Thank you for sharing your joy and your expertise with the world. Very best wishes to you and yours.
as someone who's new to the book binding world and working on projects, your videos are incredibly helpful! I don't always need full tutorials, just a "here's the order do to things in" and your videos are just fantastic for that. Watching you work is so soothing
I was mighty tired today after hours of work and classes both from home which is indeed affecting my health. I called it a day, started RU-vid to watch old Discovery Channel videos in bed on how crisps, chalk, etc are made in factories, that led to watching how they print the NY Times, that led me to you. Watched the first two parts, got up, brewed coffee, watched the remaining 3, amazing mood, rush of energy and now I'm back to my books again. My point is, thank you kindly for these excellent videos and spreading happiness. Best wishes to you
Was absolutely fascinating to watch you make a book! Love the video style with music and no talking. In awe of your work. Thank you so much for sharing.
Several years ago, as a spinoff of leather tooling, I began repairing some worn Bibles and tooling the covers. I am of mixed opinion as whether or not I wish I’d seen your series before I did those precious books. On the one hand, you taught me a LOT that I wish I’d had the insights into. On the other hand, if I’d seen the beautiful, skilled work you did here, I may have been too intimidated to attempt it. What little I did learn from others at that time, I learned from an Algerian bookbinding craftsman. I spoke none of his language and he spoke none of mind, but from our non-verbal communications, he understood what I wanted and did a masterful job of showing me enough to get me through my projects. You just showed me a totally different level of skill! Thank you for doing that!
What an intriguing story! I haven't had the benefit of an old-world mentor, only other books and online resources. But I'm glad you found something worthwhile in my videos.
You can really tell the amount of love and hard word out into this piece! The amount of detail and making sure everything is perfect is outstanding.. you are a true master of your craft! ❤️
Wow, thank you! I wouldn't call myself a master, merely an enthusiastic student. This project wasn't without its mistakes, but I'm always trying to learn and improve. I do appreciate the feedback though!😊
From start to finish, what an amazing craft! I can see the importance of precision cutting. Not that I will be making a book like this anytime soon, but I sure enjoyed watching all the steps it takes to make an incredible and beautiful handmade book. Even if it has no 'talking', thank you for this well done tutorial.
What a lovely end result and process. Thank you. I'm starting to try and start getting into bookbinding to fulfill a desire to make my own notebooks and this is incredible inspiration. The medieval build was always just amazing. Always love living breathing history in the form of technique and trades!
The entire process is just mind blowing, I knew there was a lot put into making books but never thought it was so satisfying and the way you made it was just so delicate, I absolutely loved the series!
Wow you have always made quality content. Great filing. Love the voice overs you do now though! I learned so much just watching you in this video though. I am going to be making my husband a book for his first Father’s Day as a father 💕
Beautyful craftsmanship! Dear sir, you are a good teacher! If i ever get a chance to own at least a garage, i'll start making books too. Some are dreaming of burning cities down, im dreaming about making books. :) Thank you!
This brings back long forgotten memories and a gratefulness. Mr.Amery was a teacher at my junior school, 9to13 yrs. he taught us art and craft, and bookbinding was one subject, we even marbled our own paper! This brought back happy thoughts and a realisation of the hobbies/ crafts Skills I now use to make a living.....I’m a framer, I glaze copper, I I draw.....and am pretty happy. Thanks mr amery!
Oh my dear heavens. I LOVE book binding and would watch more but beyond that… u r a left handed artist ❤ u have great hands ❤ your work is amazing ❤ Overall i am in awe. Thank u for sharing ur amazing talent. Wow!❤

Dennis, you've piqued my interest. I'm 70 years old and I love working with my hands, I'm going to get involved immediately. I've ordered a couple of books but any suggestions you might have will be welcomed. Very nice work my friend.
Skill, patience and materials I've been trying for years to achieve this level . Paste down and casing size has been difficult. Now I have a set of videos to play over and over till I get it right. Thanks for sharing
Mesmerizing! I'm in awe of your skill. Never imagined so much work and so many steps go into this type of book making. A wonderful heritage art form. I'd love to try. Great videos - so serene and well made. Bravo! :-)
I just want to say something after watching all 5 videos. Thank you for sharing this. It was thoughtful and very well done. You made a beautiful book. Thank you for showing us how.
This is one of the most beautiful processes I have ever witnessed. Like others have expressed before me, I felt as though I could weep for the sadness of this lost art, and the joy of its representation.
Years ago, book making was done on Ann St in lower Manhatten. Books are treasures. Fond memories of very old antiquarian books in seminary. Fine paper and exquisite printing + ancient book covers !
😲~ I always wondered how that paper was made to have a shiny surface ~ now I can do this on all my handmade marbled paper ~ thank you for this ~ much appreciated!!
Beautiful. I've watched all episodes for this book, lots of visible information broken down making it easy to follow. Thankyou. I'm planning to make another book and will use these videos for reference. Thank you agsin
Beautiful book. I’ve seen various videos and none with as much detail, but then I’ve never seen a book made with leather and paper design for the cover. Keep going. It’s great work.
Those are the most satisfying 5 videos I have ever watched. I have always loved books and had a journal, but there is something so special about these beautiful handcrafted ones. Really love watching this so much.
what a wonderful journey the past 5 videos have been. Simply delightful. And to those who showed frustration with angles and obstacles, I don't believe this was meant to be instructional. I didn't recognize this as a tutorial, but rather a story. One that inspires and evokes emotion. And from that you take what you wish. Whether just to enjoy it at face value, the creative process resulting in a work of craftmanship; or be inspired to take your own creative journey. Thank you again, FKBA.
You are correct in that I didn't set out to make instructional videos, though many people have found them to be so. Thank you for watching and for your thoughtful comment!
A truly beautiful piece of work sir, created with loving care. Thank you for showing us what man can create, and something entirely practical for those who wish to record their thoughts maybe, and something of beauty that you would want to keep forever.
I wanted to make my grandson a tiny book. Your video’s showed me how. My book is not the caliber as yours, but I’m satisfied with how it turned out. Thank you for posting these amazing video’s.
Simply wonderful! It must feel like a minor miracle to see a pile of raw material become a finished, handmade book...and then to do it all again. I'm a chef and certain rote/repetitive/mundane tasks are moving meditation to me. One is to clean and julienne an entire case of bell peppers; the mind dissolves into the task, all sense of past and present melding together into just the eternal now. I expect some aspects of book making must be somewhat like that as well.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. And yes, many aspects of bookbinding are meditative for me. Folding and cutting paper with a blade, for example. I think I could fold and cut paper all. day. long.
Thank you for this wonderful video of yours! As a teenager who fell in love with making handmade books, you gave me a gleam of hope and inspiration through your passion and lovely craftmanship. Surely, I'd do anything to be an apprentice of yours. Please continue making videos!!
I like how you use an old tear-out textbook as a handy and compact source of paper for doing gluing. I keep a stack of index cards for this, but I now find your approach is much better.
Now I see what you meant by the PVA setting up faster and being unforgiving compared to the Wheat Glue you use in other videos. It was obvious when you cut the teeny strip of blue leather. Meticulously done! ♥
