Making a Harley Mainshaft Sprocket Nut Socket

In this video I will be showing you guys how we make this specialty tool for just over $20! Jims sells these sockets for removing the Main shaft sprocket/pulley nut from the Harley 4 & 5 speed transmissions for around $130, but we make one in very little time and for a lot less money!
If you include the cleaning up of the welds and paint after the fab work was done (which is optional), it’s easily less than 2 hours of work that went into the whole thing.
My dad has made a few of these in the past that he has given away and this time it was my turn to learn 😁
Thanks for watching and I hope you all find this helpful ✌️
And, anyone who want's to send me pictures of their bikes, you can email me at:
redrider.canada.bc@gmail.com
PLEASE SEND LARGE CLEAR PHOTOS!
1080p x 1080p is the MINIMUM we can work with, so please do your best at making sure your photos are large and not blurry 🙂 And send more than one if you can as well!
Only motorcycle related emails please - sorry, but I just don't have the time to engage in personal conversations.
Thank you for your understanding.
If you DON'T want your bike highlighted in a future video showing viewers bikes then make sure to mention it in your email. Other than that, expect to see your bike in one of my videos!
If you would like my PO BOX address you can find it in the description to my channel by following this link:

Hi 👋, Red, Happy New Year 🥳, to everyone, great job, making your own sprocket nut socket, I have made the same socket tool , but all I done was cut the socket drive off and then welded a tube in between, so it kept the 3/4 drive, Stay safe, keep up the great work the 3 of you, 😂, 🎉, Phil from the moulin.

That was a cool video. When I used to put fittings together for welded pipe we used to use angle iron as a make shift line clamp up, just like you did for the socket to be insinc with the ratchet adaptor. Happy New Year, and I hope next year is better for everybody.

Great job. Your dad is a really good welder and making your own tool just makes it that much more special. After painting you wouldn't even know it was shop-made. Does Loki and Tiny get along? ha ha. And, Red, cranking that 50 lb. torque like nothing. You are buff, kid. (and the Coyotes have been snacking on the rabbits around here.) Peace. Eric in Kissimmee.

Nice innovation. I see you have a super nut on the sprocket. I'm still using the traditional nut, and if I don't torque it to at least 150 lbs, it'll leak transmission fluid 100% of the time.

Nice job Angel...I have lots of home made fabricated tools myself, I bought a socket years ago to make that very tool that you made, but never got around to making it, mainly because I never had a band saw, so it got put on the back burner for another time lol... But I did make a tool from a combination wrench, I cut it down on the box end side, and left about an inch left to weld a 1/2" drive socket to, kinda like a crows foot, and it works pretty well not as good as a socket but, work good enough still allows you to torque the nut !! You and your dad are great craftsmen and fabricators!! Keep up the videos, I truly enjoy watching them, I'm a lot like your dad health wise, a retired mechanic, i can't do a lot of the things that I use too do, I have a very bad back problem but , I like watching your videos, because it reminds me of the things I use to could do !! ✌😘💖

There’s an analogy, or an Aesop Fable (or one derived from the other🤷‍♂️) which goes something like this: Necessity is the mother of invention. Who goes and buys a specialty tool when you don’t need it more than a half dozen times? I sure as hell don’t! I’ve done the same thing with specialty marine stuff. And I see the bird is still hanging around!
