Hi guys! Today I'm putting together a journal cover using chip board. I'm not sure if I've made one of these on camera before so I thought I'd share. I hope it's easy enough to follow if you'd like to give it a try. Thanks for watching!

As a quilter first and crafter second, folding over the corners first makes way more sense in my brain. It’s following the same principle for mitering corners.

Thanks! It does bulk the corner up a little bit but I’m okay with that. 💞

I am watching you make this chipboard cover, and it makes sense to me, everyone else cuts the corners at an angle and i find that difficult, your way is so simple you cant make a mistake (I’m hoping) , thank you pamela hall

Hi, Pamela! I hope it works for you. Cutting the corners is scary to me. I feel like the chip board will show or that I’ll cut it wrong and the fold won’t hide the cut or the paper will look weird. This works for me and I don’t feel like it makes it too bulky or anything. Thanks for watching! 💗

I love using chipboard for my book covers too..I get them in large sheets from Dick Blick and cut them down myself. I like that way because I can make whatever book size I want to..and if I want to make a super sturdy book I can layer two pieces :D. The price is really good too. Really enjoyed your tutorial, thank you for sharing!

Stefani over the summer there has been a little bit of issues with court and getting stuff done so that my daughter has all the legal rights to anything of Brianna's. We are still here in Florida still packing and still arguing about what I can keep. No arguments really it's just hard to let go of some of my stuff for crafts even though it is truly junk to everyone else in the world. Big hugs love you like a little sis

I like making covers this way. I usually see people glue the Tyvek over the top of the spine piece, but this way is much easier. You can see where to place everything better. You've changed my life, Stefani! 😃 This cover is gorgeous and the fabric was an amazing find! 😍💕

Same here. Have 5 signatures, 5 sheets each signature of 8" x 10" (16" x 20") Caron watercolor paper, cold-pressed, 140# paper for a mixed media journal. I have been slowly learning to make me own journals because I am picky about the paper I use. Your video helps with the cover which takes skill for it to come out in a useable form. I'm going to use beginning sewing methods to stitch the signatures together. Thx for your help.

Hi, Lyndsay. This was a long time ago. I had to go back and watch to see what I had done. I had lots of scraps of that particular paper pack if I remember correctly. I just started adding them to a larger 12 x 12 sheet of paper and cut each one to fit. I inked around each one before gluing them down. This does take a really long time and I didn’t follow any pattern I just used the paper pieces that I had and fit them as best as I could. I hope that makes sense and thanks for watching! 🤗

What are you rubbing on it at 20:00 ( and why)? Thank you
@coffeepaperscissors4408
@coffeepaperscissors4408 Год назад
That is a distress ink by Tim Holtz. It's supposed to make the edges of the paper look aged or a little grungy. It is very commonly used by people who make journals or other paper crafts.

Thanks so much, Stefani! I wanted to see how this was done. Watched a few tutes weeks back, and handling the corners makes me nervous. Like that you do not cut them (most say to cut to reduce bulk) and use heavy weight brown paper as a base before adhering the final, decorative paper. I plan to use 50pt chipboard; hoping to cut it with a box knife and metal ruler. One question: Did you glue your collage to thin copier paper, or did you use cardstock? Just curious about the strength and durability. Also, I have a workhorse printer (just an under $80 HP All-In-One), but it, too, rejects my 110# cardstock so I just print digitals onto 65#. Since I make cards and folios often, I save that 110# stuff for my card bases which are always white. I want me cards to be durable and potentially long-lasting. And I place my cards and tags under a heavy book overnight as they often curve or warp. I recall the first folio I made for my dad. All the tags started to bow. Being a newbie, I did not know this could happen. The next day, I was ironing them flat. (It works.) I will look to see if you show the journal completed. Want to see which fabric you chose.
@coffeepaperscissors4408
@coffeepaperscissors4408 2 года назад
Hi Ann! I’m glad to help. 😁. This was so long ago that I couldn’t really remember the collage so I went back and watched it. I’m not sure what base I used for it but I would image it was a thinner piece of paper. Lots of times I’ll use a piece of scrapbook paper that I don’t like very much and probably wouldn’t use anyway and collage on top of it so it’s not wasted. I hope that answers your question and thank you so much for watching! 💕

This was a very helpful video for me 👍💕 I have been making ephemera for over two years, but haven't been brave enough to actually do a cover and put an actual journal together....I am in the process of making my very first journal (a farm/garden theme) for my daughter-in-love for this Christmas. I have fabric for the cover.... Do you think I still would need to use the Tyvek on the spine? Also, thinking ahead after watching your awesome vid I am thinking I will need to do a hidden spine? Thanks in advance ☺ Blessings from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state~~~
@coffeepaperscissors4408
@coffeepaperscissors4408 11 месяцев назад
I love the Olympic Peninsula, what a beautiful place to be from! I’m glad this video helped you out, I’m sure you will make a wonderful journal. I don’t think Tyvek would be necessary when using fabric to cover the spine in fact I don’t think it would stick very well. Glue does sometimes seep through fabric so you just have to be aware of that and sometimes it’s just unavoidable. I searched through my videos to see if I could find one covering a journal with fabric but I couldn’t. I do know there are lots of videos that do show it though. Thanks for your very nice comment? ❤️

I got thst brown paper at walmart. I did the samething you did and it showed the glue through it and ripped when I shut the book.😢
@coffeepaperscissors4408
@coffeepaperscissors4408 6 месяцев назад
Oh no! Did you use Tyvek and did you leave space enough between the chipboard pieces? The reason I added Tyvek is because you can’t tear it and if the brown paper is glued to it thoroughly it shouldn’t tear either. As far as the glue showing through, I don’t know. Maybe my paper was heavier/thicker paper? I haven’t purchased any of it for a long time so I’m wondering if it’s a thinner paper now. I also cover the brown paper with scrapbook paper for decoration. I’m so sorry it didn’t work for you. 😔

I’ve been so busy over the last several days and haven’t checked my messages, sorry for the delayed response. Yes, tyvek. Unfortunately it’s pretty costly. I usually buy a package of tyvek envelopes and cut them as I need them but you can also buy larger amounts used by construction workers. I’ve never checked into the cost comparison. TFW ❤️
