Official Simple Little Life video of making a kydex knife sheath.
Here's a tutorial showing how I make my custom kydex knife sheaths. If you have any questions or comments, please just let me know in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them.
www.knifekits.com is where I buy my kydex supplies. Good prices and I've had great customer service with them.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

The pointy drill you referred to is called a Brad point drill. Very nice to use in woodworking and the cut very uniform holes and are easy to center on a small mark due to the sharp point

Thanks for your informative videos. Your bit is a standard HSS Brad Point bit, which is the best bit for all wood drilling. Outer bit points cut a clean perimeter before the bit drills the hole. Have you considered adding a simple stand-off block of wood or aluminum to your knife with double stick tape before forming Kydex, to allow you customized locations for adding Chicago bolts, for attachment of belt clips instead of your current standoff? Look at clip mounting of just about any Kydex pistol holster and you will see it. Very clean.

I use a book press for my kydex without the foam glued in. You also can get more definition by warming the blade and foam before forming. Wet sand the edges working up in grit. ( Learned both from Phillyedc's channel) also heating the pad takes the impression out, I can do multiple sheaths back to back. I use foam seat pads for my press and it works well just watch ones with lettering on them the letters will melt on to very hot kydex. Nice video as always

Oh yeah. I've messed around with leather a bit too (my dad used to make a lot of leather and was quite good at it) and I'll tell you kydex is way easier. There are guys that take kydex to amazing places, but leather is much more of an art in my opinion. Cheers!

sweet. It's really very simple to work with. Even things like lighter holders, magazine holders (if you're into guns)(I should say, "assault" guns) they are very easy. And if you make a mistake, often you can just heat it with a heat gun and fix it. Cheers!

Very nicely done. I look forward to exploring your channel. A quick question- have you explored the possibilities of vacuum draw for shaping the sheath or do you think that's overkill ? I was hesitating because the requirements for vacuum forming seem a bit beyond my reach at this point, but with your foam pre,ss I think that makes this much more doable ?

Thank you very much for sharing the video. I was looking for where to see the eyelets placed in the kydex up close; but in your video I have also been wanting. However, it is the best place where it has been explained. Maybe we complain about the length of the videos, but I think that occasionally a video of this length is very necessary. Thanks again for sharing and saying that I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time. But it is a real hassle, having to use the google translator to write a simple comment like this. Sorry if there is something that is not understood, due to the translation, and forgive me for my poor level of English. A greeting.

Awesome vid on how to work kydex. As a UK viewer where even carrying a fountain pen in public without cause is considered ‘carrying an offensive weapon’ and our police have a ‘stick’ as standard defence. A police officer wanting and carrying specialist knives as a casual add on to their gear is pretty cool to be honest.

13:35 instead of the third piece you could add a .2" block of wood (or however thick needed) to the knife blade with tape so you just have 2 pieces. provides additional clearance for the screw. Saves you material and fewer points of failure... just a thought.

Hi, Thanks for a great video. That is a fantastic knife, I have thought about purchasing a blade like that, but I haven't seen a design quite like this, yet. Question: Do you make knives like that, and that cool sheath, to sale? -sincerely, and thanks again, Hans.
@Jimi8512
@Jimi8512 5 лет назад
I just had a thought. If the inner side of the sheath was longer, the tactical mount could be behind the handle instead of the blade. Therefore it would sit lower from the waist and slimmer to the body since you dont have to make that spacer. I think it would be a more comfortable reach, you would even have a protected side to minimize the risk of cutting yourself when reaching for the knife. And you protect the blade from scratches as well. But that mount you did there maybe was for a legmount? I just found your videos. loving them! Im not far away from trying to make a knife myself. So inspiring. Thanks! :-)
