Here's how I made this late 1930's style dress for my brother's wedding. I make stuff my own way, so this may not be considered the "proper" way to make this style of dress. But it's what made sense to me, and there's no reason someone couldn't have done it this way 85 years ago. If you want to hear my thoughts on historical accuracy, and what exactly that means when it comes to my personal projects, you can watch this rant video: • What Is "Historical Ac...

Gosh you made this look so approachable! Makes me want to go to the store, buy some fabric, and drape me a dress!

Thanks! Overthinking really is one of the hardest things about sewing. So many patterns make it seem so complicated, so I'm so glad I've made my own patterns for years. It really helps me to understand what's going on. So maybe when I try a pre-made pattern I'll be able to understand it better!

I love the reveal part, it's very artistic, esp the part with the picture. The dress turned out super beautiful, the color is gorgeous too!

Wow, the dress looks absolutely stunning! I adore the sleeves. Also, the aesthetic way you film and edit your videos is simply breathtaking. Loved this from start to finish 🌸

Thank you so much! It’s really easy to second guess my editing since I’ve been doing it so long now. After watching footage for 3 straight hours, you get to a point where everything looks equally boring 😂.

@@MirandaMilner I know the feeling! I get the same way when I’m editing. It’s definitely worth the effort though. Your videos always turn out so gorgeous!

As an owner of a couple more formal 30s dresses you did amazing!!(the only thing was the length but you covered that) and honestly that color did end up looking very 30s! Thank you for making another great video, I now feel like making my own in the near future💗🩵

this makes pattern draping seam so much easier. I've always overthought it, but will definitely try it again using your techniques.

I love the solution with the ribbon for holding the drape. I'm going to experiment with that! I liked the other solutions too. (And that you tend to suggest alternative options for a number of aspects!)

Very nice dress. A friend of mine wanted to dye her dress for my wedding and it was also sythetics, it did not pick up the dye at all, but left stains, which she "removed" by sewing a spiral seam from the top left shoulder to the hem of her slipdress. It looked great. Designs by colouring accidents seem to turn out😊

Brilliant video! I've been super into the 20s and 30s recently and the dress turned out so lovely. Bias-cutting fabric always looks beautiful. P.S Your videos are looking so professional! I could sit and watch them all day :D (edit) + your puppy is so cute!!

The dye... Rit dye is... uhm... not great. They're just widely available. A lot of people have be burned the same way. I'm glad in this case the colour was one you ended up really liking. If anyone wants to explore different options, there are a few companies that sell online, in a lot more colours. But synthetics are always going to prove a challenge, and large projects in synthetics even more so, since they dye better in extremely hot water... which needs to stay extremely hot for the 30-40 minutes... but also has to be kept moving... "easy" my arse. I noticed the ribbon securing the neckline drape took on more dye than the fabric. But it doesn't look like it got as far as magenta either. But please, no one make the mistake I did, and sew synthetic fabric, with cotton thread, "to make sure the thread takes the colour" using dye for synthetics. It will rot your thread just enough that (hopefully) the seams will start to come apart when you try it on, hopefully preventing you from wearing it out before you discover you destroyed the thread. 🤦‍♀️ Fortunately I machine sewed, so I wasn't losing quite the incredible level of work that went into this lovely dress.

If I may, as a stranger, make a small video suggestion: The noise with the bars, is physically painful for some people, myself included. Some creators simply remove the sound, and I really appreciate it. Others reduce the tone to about half the volume of the vocals. This works fine for me, but apparently it's still unpleasant for others. Thank you for the consideration!

Thank you! I appreciate the respectful suggestion. I’ll see what I can do.

It's so gorgeous! 🩷 I don't know very much about 30s fashion so this was a very interesting watch!
