Making a Lemon Cider at 8.4% ABV. Hard Cider made with the Turbo Cider method: • Making a Lemon Cider a... .
Hey folks, in this film I'll be making a lemon flavoured cider using the turbo cider method of apple juice from concentrate along with three cans of lemon flavoured soda pop. The recipe is very straight forward and besides the aforementioned ingredients includes brewing sugar, pectolase, yeast nutrient and yeast.
The cider is brewed in a demijohn, upon tasting this is a very dry lemon flavoured cider, it is crystal clear, sparkling and of an overall excellent quality.
The film includes all stages of the brewing process from ingredients, through recipe, fermentation, bottling, conditioning, opening and tasting.

Great videos and love your techniques and detailed explanation. Do you ferment in the dark or is it Ok to expose to light?

Hi Raymond, thanks for the comment. I ferment in the light, but I keep my demijohns out of direct sunlight, so just ambient room light. Cheers!

Great video Stuart, the Ascorbic Acid is the preservative in the lemon drink which in itself is made from citrus fruits, although no doubt synthesised these days. Never made turbo cider but I'm definitely gonna give it a go, would increasing the brewing sugar have sweetened it up a bit ?
@MossHomeandGarden
@MossHomeandGarden Год назад
Thanks for the info Steve. Increasing the brewing sugar would likely have had the opposite effect and made this drier and less flavoursome, unless you add so much that the yeast can't cope, but then it ends up tasting like sherry at 15-19%.

You could always back sweeten ie pop a spoon of sugar in as you pour it into the glass

Nice video again. So the main question, which method is better for a lemon cider? This or Limonpani? Would love you to have a go at a Strawberry & Lime recipe. Hope the bread turned out well!
@stuartmoss
@stuartmoss 2 года назад
I’ll add strawberry and lime to my list. I prefer the Limopani cider overall, it was also an easier method. The bread….well let’s just say it could have been better…see next weeks film!! Cheers! Edit: PS. Replying from wrong account.

I would remove the CO2 from the lemonade. The CO2 will prevent having a lot of oxygen in the mix and the yeast needs the Oxygen to multiply. I would simply have stired with a spoon for a few mins to avoid changing the taste by boiling.
@aaronweyl2272
@aaronweyl2272 2 года назад
That could be a useful tip. :) Have you do that before brewing?
@Silverholic
@Silverholic 2 года назад
@@aaronweyl2272 I have never used a fizzy drink to brew with. On the other hand I always gas out my brews once fermentation is done. I just rack to a pitcher and use a large slotted spoon to stir until there is no CO2 left.

Thanks, yes that would be simpler! Edit: PS. Replying from wrong account.

Well, it sure looks pretty lemon-y coloury drink alright! XD However, maybe you didn't add a back flavourings (In this case lemon) or add sweeteners hence why you'll ended up get dry tasting as you decption or you have to leave it for long least 6 mouths so flavors will developed. Plus, I think you add too much sugar which cause it to get dryness overtime. I believe lemon makes the drink bitter. Also, how much is that unnamed Asian yeast? Anyhow, Lemon cider sounds tasty, pretty decent follow-up of your other Lemon-y drink video :)

I was happy to make a dry cider, plus my wife prefers them dry so it wasn’t a problem. The sugar was the right amount I felt for the lack of sugar in the lemon drink. I can’t remember how much the yeast was to be honest, but it wasn’t expensive. Less than 10 Euro certainly. Cheers! Edit: PS. Replying from wrong account.
