What a great job! This is one of the coolest tape hacks I've ever seen. I just don't understand why you put a speaker in the input. Could you explain it please?
@christopherecatalano
@christopherecatalano 5 месяцев назад
I didn't hear the explanation, but any headphone or small speaker flipped to become an output to input device can become a microphone. I convert broken headphones into them routinely.

@BatteryOperated

You can record the loop on the machine, however, you can't hear what you're recording unless you use a splitter cable... due to the XL having no monitor signal 👍

Hey. Thanks for the modded tape player. Already enjoying it. Wondered if you had any tips for recording a perfect loop without a gap. Your demos have seamless loops. What's the trick? Cheers.
@BatteryOperated
@BatteryOperated 10 месяцев назад
Yes my friend, firstly, thanks for your support 🙏 If you look at where the tape is read on the XL (or whatever player you have) you'll see a small bright blue thingy to the left of the tape head, that's the magnet that wipes the tape when recording (so you can record over it). If you cover that with a bit of tin foil or electrical tape or antistatic plastic; it will stop the blanking of the tape and will allow you to record layers and also make seamless loops! It is also very easy to remove, no wiring, you can just yank it out with a pair of pliers... HOWEVER... be warned, once it is removed there will be no way to blank your tape for recording... unless you have another player handy that you could use specifically for blanking the tape. So all in all covering it is the best option, removing it is possible, but not recommend... If you need anything further such as videos or pictures about how to do what I'm describing drop us a message on Instagram @battery_operated_ 👌

Wow I never thought of that. Recording a loop by disabling the erase head... meaning you can let your note decay after you've passed the starting line again, overdubbing. Very clever @@BatteryOperated

I often see this pcb used in reverb pedals but most people only connect one 50k pot and remove one resistor to be able to adjust the signal. But you have 4 pots? What are you connecting the other two to? Are you using 50k pots?
@BatteryOperated
@BatteryOperated Год назад
We use a 10k for the tape players speed mod, that's not attached to the pt2399 pcb though... Then it's a 100k for the effect time, 1m for an extra feedback mod on the pt2399 pcb, then 50k for the dry/wet mix...if I remember correctly! Aha More work/information on the pt2399 in our "cheap tape delay" video

I noticed on the original build you used an external 9v battery for the pt2399. Did you end up running the cassette player's power into the delay board's +/- on this one? Awesome build, as always.

Hey Alex cheers for watching mate! Yes we jumped 6v from the tape players board. The pt2399 is okay with 5v-9v.

The value of the pots are random or they have to be specific?
@BatteryOperated
@BatteryOperated 7 месяцев назад
If you're modding this specific unit then the values we have chosen are optimised to give you the most range, however it's a variable that changes when working on different tape players so it's kind of something you have to fiddle around with... for example slowing down this unit requires an A10k value pot but if you soldered to what is essentially the same area but on a different unit; the value required to get the most range might be different.
@ManuPro3

@@BatteryOperated thanks, i want to do the same thing as you did, unfortunately i could not find the same unit available but with your videos and this comment i feel comfortable enough to try it myself.
