And to keep from explosive splatters, try to get rid of as much moisture on the outside as possible. To avoid the splatter from even just laying something in a pan, a few pinches of salt straight into the oil will also help keep it from popping and splattering. A little flour to either the food or the oil will also help. Also, to check if the oil is ready for a pan sear without getting the temp, poke it with a wooden spoon handle or chopstick. If it gets ✨bubbly✨ it's ready. For a deep fry, a thermometer is best because temperature is very important and needs to change based on what you're making and how thick and/or moist it is.

Nah fax I worked fryer for a few months and have scars from it. The worst thing is when oil gets places due to it dripping and you don't notice then touch it, it's not as hit but not fun on metal
