That is a thing of beauty Victor! That wood started off as old, tough and almost forgotten and you made it into an outstanding piece of furniture that is timeless!

Simple, straightforward construction. Doesn't get much easier than that. Very nice doweling job. Makes for good strong joint. And the few mm off the diameter will never be missed. Excellent presentation. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.

Now that has planted a seed. My brother in law had an old gum tree dropped a couple of years ago and its been sitting seasoning in my back yard ever since. Its been nearly 2 years now so it looks like I might be off to Trade Tools to get a flattening bit for my router and then start milling some timber up. The slabs are about 6' long by about 18-20" wide and the middle of the tree was white ant eaten so I have a nice selection to work with, might even do something with a live edge. Keep up the inspirational work Vic!

Very nice Vic. Never heard of that wood. Definitely not found in the West. Yep, I wear my gloves when handling rough hardwood's 😊. I take it, like me, you are not allowed to wear your boots indoors 😉

No, no boots inside mate. I think it must be an eastern timber because someone else from the west said the same. Thanks very much Peter

Vic that's a lovely table mate, the names of your hardwoods in Australia are bonkers, I imagine there rock solid as it most take generations for these hardwoods to grow in such hot dry conditions. Ps God knows why you haven't hit 50k yet your content is second to none, just shows you, youtube shares utter shit sometimes well most of the time.

@catey62

Yep, Aussie hardwoods are known to be pretty much the toughest timbers in the world. there is one species here, known as 'wadi', as its called by the indigenous folk here. they used it to make fighting clubs as its almost as hard as iron. you cant nail it, it has to be drilled and screwed together, nails will just bend.
