This is what RU-vid should be about, love it! Really good videos, lol I came across your channel do to the Royal Mail video but I'll subscribe. Keep up the great work!
Traditional names for both types are, ledged and battoned door, same as in video, ledged battoned and braced door is the same but with the addition of angled bracing for extra strength and resistance to sagging opposite the hinge side. :-) great video again vickie.
I discovered your channel last week and I'm completely hooked and have been working my way through your videos. It's been great to see you increase your skills over the years. I'm a carpenter's daughter too and my father taught me some of his woodworking skills. Your videos have inspired me to get out my power tools and do some DIY around the house.
Vickie you did a terrific job on that, it is amazing that a project that small takes this much effort. I like that color of preservative. I see the good old kitchen stools are popular over there too.
Don't think I'd seen this design before... not sure whether it was left in this property or my parents acquired it from somewhere, but it's been a handy stool for shorties like me 😂
Great stuff, looks really good - a little surprised that you didn't use some sash cramps to squeeze the boards together in case they shrink and the gaps open? We have a T&G shed that's stained black but has orange stripes in the warm weather when the boards shrink and the original wood preservative shows!
Very cool. It's interesting to see someone use screws on a fence. I forget that not everyone deal deals with insane wind for half the year. The screws would rip through the wood around here
Great job, you have given me inspiration to build one for our narrow sideway. Did you add the cross pieces to the fence panel or were these already like it as ours are just feather edge. Thanks
Nicely done. So is that hinge and lock on the inside of the property? Be odd if latch was outside? Looking at similar but we ended up just drilling hole into brick wall to take bolt as side was too narrow to fit any wooden posts...
We've done this for security reasons as there's another one of these gates on the opposite side which you can see at the beginning on this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pGbBNgteZ-U.html&t
How about a cabin hook to hold it open when you need to, or just to stop it blowing shut behind you? You could end up having to climb the fence to get back through.👍🏼
There is always alot more to a gate than people first expect. Getting hinges and latches all lined up can be a nightmare, especially on older warped gates. I did wonder why you were putting all the hardware on the nice side but then realised you had another gate further down the alley. I guess double security with the low fence next door.
Jigsaws are not really suitable for long straight cuts, that small circular saw would be a better choice, however I would recommend a timber battern either clamped or temporarily screwed as a guide with either tool.
Nice job . To save back ache don't bend down to sand something when you can stand it up and do it , I am old compared to you ( you had the gate on it's side).
The Carpenter's Daughter no leave it in at least it’s not a hairy one 😆 keep up the good videos your dad is teaching you well I have learnt a lot of my father over the years and I’m now starting to build my own house
