It's so wonderful to watch someone so skilled in their work, I don't woodwork at all but that was very interesting & informative! :-) The Lidl joke made me lol, :-D they look really handy! When you have the right tools it just makes things go waaay easier, and you certainly seem a lot of those, awesome! Thank you for taking the time to put that video together for us & sharing it here! Stay safe & have fun :-)
Excellent job there Steve! I am about to make a pair of shutters for our new window, I will add up the cost of materials for that, those screw centering drills are a huge asset when fitting hinges, and your hinge sinking jig is a very good idea, I usually use a big framing chisel and cut then in, you must have a huge dust extractor, I have never seen dust in your workshop ! Stay safe, Chris B.
Thanks Chris, the drills are good for this type of work got them ages ago of eBay or Amazon I can’t remember however they were very reasonably price for a set of three. I swap between chisel and router depending on my mood tbh as for no dust in the workshop it’s really OCD I clean up on a regular basis and every machine I use is connected to an extractor, I use a HVLP for the Planer/thicknesser and table saw (a B&Q PPro many years old) a Record Power CAMVac for the sanding machines, a Rutlands 50 litre High Filtration for the Bandsaws, a Klarstien High Pressure Vac for the Mitre saw (also use this to vac the shop) and a festool CTL midi for the power tools, said I was OCD 😉 as for a huge extractor I am looking at a Laguna C flux but good gracious they’re expensive. Of course it maybe that I don’t do much in the shop 😂😂. Hope all’s well Cheers Steve
@@Phenrica Yes, the centering drills are a real asset when fitting hinges, the only problem I have had with them is when the guide gets stuck if the drill flutes clog up, but a quick squirt of WD40 cures that, I have had a look at a lot of high volume extractors, but the ones I have tried on my 12" saw bench just cant cope with the fine dust, the reason I think is there is just so much space around the blade, it needs to be closed in with a much closer set of covers, I even got a vertical plume of dust over the crown guard with the extractor running, so I sent that one back , I have now looked at the Laguna, and that looks good! Chris B.
@@453421abcdefg12345 Great idea with the WD40 application, I’ll try that on mine 👍🏻 as for table saws I just think they’re not that good on dust collection, mine captures some but still lots just collect underneath and I move & clean once a month or so😏
Thanks Peter for the comment & compliment as for the timber it was dry tbh when I ordered I didn’t know it was treated defo not highlighted on the website. Since building the door there’s been some movement over the summer months but nothing that’s caused any real issues. I would try and steer away from the treated stuff as it does tend to be wet etc. Cheers Steve
