I have made a Popsicle stick bridge with 104 sticks that I tried really hard to overload and break since it ended up very strong and stiff. Watch the video to see if it finally broke!
The bridge weighs about 160 grams.

Thank you so much man. You’re a literal lifesaver. I had a bridge project for school, and the first one I made failed. I tried yours, and it held the maximum amount of weight required and didn’t even start bending or cracking. Thank you so much for this design, you just got a new subscriber!!

Hey man I followed this video and then added on to it for a college math class project, I'm a sophomore in high school and we put a weight bar on it and kept adding weight to it and it did not crack or bend or snap at all, all the way up to 305lb that's all the weight we had and nothing happened to it,😀 thanks for a great bridge it got me first place in class and i have it hanging up in my room now because it's not broken or damaged at all😀😀

Hi bro actually ibtried this model for a fest in our college and the result was amazing . This bridge was able to hold wieght upto 92kgs. Actually we had weights upto 92kgs only . And the surprising thing was this bridge didn't even bend at 92kgs. Our sir told this bridge would easily hold weights more than 100kgs . Bro please make another video but this time keep the bridge span between 50-70 cm span.

Hello, thank you for this tutorial, one question though, should there be any changes to the structure of the bottom if the load will be applied to the base (longer side of the bridge) through some sort of weights on a hook? should i glue more sticks in an X manner, or is there a better way?

@StructurePlanet

This bridge was designed with 104 sticks but 8 sticks can be removed from the compression chord which is at the top side of setup #2 or the bottom of setup #1 without affecting the capacity by much. Currently there are 18 sticks there including one at each end of the bridge and the remaining 16 sticks are placed in 8 groups of 2 which can be reduced to 8 individual sticks instead.

@StructurePlanet
@StructurePlanet 3 года назад
Assume that this is a beam and load is applied downward. So for a simply supported beam which is bending downward, tension will be at the bottom of the section since the bending alongates the tension side and shortens the compression side.

Can you tell me some tips if i am making a arch bridge? i am making it for math project
@StructurePlanet
@StructurePlanet 3 года назад
Arches will go into compression which means that it should be sized up in a way that it is not slender and to be braced laterally along the length to avoid an early buckling failure. There should also be a tie element (will go into tension) that connects both ends of the arch to stop the arch from opening.

@StructurePlanet
@StructurePlanet 3 года назад
Well, it is a balance between how much material is being used vs. how strong the bridge would be but at the same time it is important to have stronger elements where there will be more force in the member and lighter sections where there is less force in the element.

I have not used it but I would just do a quick test by gluing two sticks together (1/3rd of lengths overlapping) and try to separate them by pulling it from both ends in the same direction as the sticks. If it gets separated easily, it is not a suitable glue.

Hey this is an amazing video, do you think it would still work if it was 80cm long?
@StructurePlanet
@StructurePlanet 4 года назад
Depends on what depth, the expected load capacity and how concentrated the applied load is. An 80cm bridge with this design will have 20cm space between vertical/diagonal members so if the load is applied off-center it can cause the top chord to bend and break early. I have made a 60cm one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IFFmksQ3xSU.html
