Making a Quick Bone Thumb Ring for Eastern Archery

Was trying out a "Eastern archery shooting style" and wanted to make a quick thumb ring from a bow I found. So I thought i would share the making process.

Be honest Tom. C'mon, be straight with us. Your first thought was, "how do I make a whiskey flask out of this wee bit of bone?" THEN when you couldn't manage, you decided to make a archery thumb ring.

I've learned something new. Thanks. I like the decorated ones. I would wear it as jewelry. I suppose they were. That's one way of having them on you without loosing them.

If you want it whiter boil in bleach first. Bone and ivory can be polished to a high gloss with finer grades of sandpaper.(if you want a fine finish.) Looks to small to be beef bone. good job anyway.

there are some rings, that are carbon dated to be 3000 years old! Nomadic military tactics were very advanced and effective so long ago, it is truly amazing

Cool I've never shot a bow this way before, does the string not hurt the side of your index finger?

In the beginning but les than your fingers with Mediterranean, and you get used to it pretty quickly. You can also use a glove, piece of leather,strip of fabric or even duct tape to prevent it

The string doesn’t touch your index finger because the arrow is in between the string and your finger (on the right side of the bow for a right handed shooter). The index finger presses the arrow to the bow, but doesn’t rub against the string.

Bone is hard to cut and it makes a burning hair smell which is gross

Eastern archery is one of the best parts of history. It took out Crassus.

I'll definitely be making one of these now that I've just ordered my first horse bow. Great video as usual; I always feel like it's time well spent to watch them!
