For the airbrush, try some of the acrylic inks from the craft stores, they tend to work really well through one. I've also been using them for a whole lot of other things as well, but they are really good for airbrush use and need a lot less or even no thinning for a lot of them.
Hi Eric, i dont know how to get in contact with you, so im writing here. I want to get into terrain building in the new future, mainly for Kill Team (although i would love to get into Necromunda one day) and im a big fan of the stuff you build. Right now i have some styrofoam from a machine i bought some weeks ago and tomorrow arrives my new 3d printer, so i will get some more. Is this appropriate material for terrain building? I mean i suppose you can use almost anything, but is this material you consider valuable or is it subpar? Should i keep it or throw away? Im very new to the world of handicraft work (and im having a ton of fun!) and my knowledge is very limited for now... Greetings from germany!
I’m a sucker for dioramas and this was a real pleasure to watch. I definitely felt your pain with the resin mishaps, but you did a great job salvaging the build. Turned out great. You should definitely do more like it!
Massive amount of respect for pushing on when all looked lost after the resin pour. I’m pretty sure I would’ve gotten so frustrated I’d have binned it.
"If I don't give up, I'll just learn some new stuff." I absolutely love that, them's some words to live by for sure lol. Anyway it came out looking SO beautiful, thank you for all the tips and great job!!!
which was exactly the resin, you used for your Sewer Ratfolk Diorama that went so horribly wrong in the first place, but that you could save in such an awesome manner?
@@Craftlngo nope. It’s not what I used on THAT fail. It’s what I used on the second rat dio that went perfect. But on my recent dio vid it did the exact same nonsense it did to Eric.
Resin seems to be wrecking many a crafter's head lately! Never worked with it myself but your grit and determination were awesome to behold. And that montage of increasingly heavy duty tools was hilarious! :-D
Love how you recovered this piece! Alos, you're the first mini/terrain person I see using a jewellers saw! Such an amazing tool for getting into those details.
As a hobbyist who's yet to try out resin, I find it so much more interesting and entertaining to watch what happens when things go wrong. It's way better than a video with a smooth pour and no issues. Good job and fantastic video as always.
Good recovery! As a final polish step after sandpaper you can use t-cut or jewellery polish (silvo or brasso). You can get things up to pretty mush clear like that.
This would look great in the photo gallery section of a Warhammer Fantasy Battle Wood Elf Armybook, speaking of.. look forward to seeing your wood elves on the channel.
Dude amazing perseverance and control getting that boarder off! You had me rolling though with the scaling up of your tools! Thank you for pushing though and showing how such an amazing project can turn out really great with some determination. Definitely needed the inspiration for one of my projects. It looks amazing and intentional on the edges!
I can relate to the "throw everything you've got at it" approach to working around your mistakes haha. The saws and cutting tools coming out one after another. Great finished diorama!
Great video! Thank you for the sculpt-a-mold sound effects and the ominous music joke! Great composition of the video and a very deep bow for pushing through after the failed pour! You really nailed it here on every front!
Great build! I really appreciate you sharing both your successes and challenges. I believe we all can learn as much from our set backs as we can our successes, provided we maintain a objective/positive outlook. Truthfully, I can lose hope or "spiral" when things don't go to plan. Thankfully content creators such as yourself and BlackMagicCraft demonstrate to the community that everyone has challenges, and it's okay. You may not think of yourself as "inspiring" or a "role model" but I think you are definitely helping to encourage people like myself to try different materials whioe exploring their creativity with less apprehension. I feel that is commendable. Also more great Canadian content👍!
I had a pour once that I left on my kitchen counter to cure and my dam broke! Needless to say it was a huge mess and lessons were learned. I love two part resin but it can be fickle. I’m happy that you were able to salvage your build. It turned out awesome 👍
Love THIS BUILD! I have used this same Resin myself, I have learned to NOT do big pours with it, Even if it says so. I do SMALL pours 2 or 3 times. Then it did not turn yellow, nor were there so many bubbles. And with a Big Pour it seemed like that type of Resin got really Hot too. So my mini pours were my best Option, " For Me" It worked better. I did a river on a 2'x2" Diorama, and it cam out perfect. Next I will do a water fall! You inspired me to try this as well.. THANKS ERIC!! Great ART!!!
I would 100% have given up after the resin poor. And i would have thrown it at a wall once the styrene card didnt come off. Honestly a massive lesson to learn here about perseverance and how even in failure there is still learning to be gained. Massive props to you and cant wait for more videos.
Hey i know you probably wish this was a thing for yours, but apparently your chill vibe tutorial videos keep my 2-month old completely asleep. And i get to hobby myself with this in the background :)
Have you ever tried Durham's Rock Hard? You can color one batch of it and apply it to a project and then do another layer of a different color. When you sand it you get different colors or a marble effect. It's fun to work with.
I was always told to use paste wax when doing any sort of casting where you need a mold release. And I never recall having an issue with anything sticking. However, I'm not even sure where to buy a can of paste wax these days. I guess I should check Amazon. If you can find some, you put some on a cloth and smear it around till you get a very thin film. Petroleum jelly might work the same. Glad you made it work though. Looks great.
Very awesome scenery. Hey, that duck. I remember watching that cartoon, but I can't remember the title. What's the title of that? Would like to watch that again.
You know, that water looks wicked. Like, literally. Looks like evil water, like something that has no bottom if you jumped in. Something that wouldn’t let you swim back up. Shame it’s not easily replicable, because I’m getting a few ideas
I actually think whatever went wrong with the resin, tuned out great, cos on the video it looks like debris in the water. But despite that small mishap awesome project ✌🏻
So I have a Playlist called Terrain RU-vidrs, and I wonder if I should I stop adding your videos to it, because I add them all 😆. I just need to search a concept and I bet I will find it on your channel. Thanks Eric!
Can you give a bit more info on the mould release you use at 08:02? I guess its to stop the resin sticking to the styrene card? How long do you need to leave it applied to the card before pouring the resin?
You were in my mind yesterday, while painting my Seraphons, whats with Eric? Havent seen a video in a month? Is he ok? Whats he up to? And now this. The universe is kind today. ;)
Thanks for the vid Eric, shame about the resin but you did a great job salvaging it! I've got an airbrush myself but haven't used it because it's intimidating, but I like making dioramas so maybe that's a good first step.
