Hi! This was a pretty quick little build. It was a custom order I received on Etsy. The client wanted a set of 4 ring boxes that were perfect 1.5" cubes. He supplied the awesome wood blanks which I believe are meant to be turning blanks but were perfect for this. I used the CNC router to make sure all of the magnets were placed perfectly. Each top can match with each base without issue. I sanded all the way to 1200 grit and finished the boxes with walnut oil. The magnets are 1/8" x 1/4".
Here are products I like to use often in the shop. These are affiliate links. Purchasing through these links helps support the parillaworks channel. Thanks!

These are fantastic! I like the trick of two forstner bits. I think I might have just used a small piece of felt in the top hole, since the bottom hole is concealed from the leather. I love the leather roll trick! Great job explaining it all!

I love the rolled-up leather for the ring holder, years ago I made a box like this for my friend's wedding and rounded a piece of walnut in the lathe and cut that into 2 sections to kinda take up space. It worked but it never sat well with me as a good solution.

On beautifully grained hardwood like that, I like to sand up to 12000 with Micromesh, and simply finish it with Camellia oil. It's something I use on the dip pens and oblique dip pens I occasionally make, and the feel in the hand is amazing. I don't see many videos where Camellia oil is used, and I wonder if it's something that's just not popular or desired for whatever reason.Beautiful work!Cheers

@parillaworks
@parillaworks 4 года назад
The client supplied them so I don't know exactly where they're from but there are plenty of online dealers for this type of stuff. Searching for the wood species + "turning blank" may help as well. The species are curly koa, Brazilian rosewood, desert ironwood, and redwood (amboyna) burl.

Could you have done everything at CNC, and drilled with Foster drill? I did not understand.
@parillaworks
@parillaworks 4 года назад
Yes, I considered doing it all with the CNC. However, the holes the CNC drilled were too loose of a fit with my magnets. Instead of fiddling with the CNC settings and end mills, I decided to use an 1/8" brad point bit which gave me the fit I needed.
