One suggestion to what may be my next project. Adding some rare earth magnets to the bottom of the inner box and corresponding points on the outer box, to keep the drawer closed until intentionally tugged. Love the wood contrast.
Another great video. It's cool you shared the fact the finished box is not what you planned, that tells your viewers sometimes we need to improvise and change plans.
Don't have a need for apple boxes---in my house, they'd be "jump-off-and-make-huge-boom-boxes" with my kids! BUT, I love the design! Beautiful design and wood selection.
Definitely upping your production value game, Dave. The project speaks for itself, but making videos enjoyable to watch is another challenge by itself. Great job!
Dude, you have stepped up the video game with CameraMan Dan. He is showcasing your work in high fashion! Love this multifunction project David. The contrast of woods makes it pop as more than just a prop for the shop (see what I did?). Again, very good stuff!
Cracking video David. Been waiting to see it since you mentioned you'd made an apple box on the podcast Those little offcuts of walnut... custom Scrabble tiles ?
Just curious why you cut the first nibble on the near side and then switch to the far side for the rest? I understand why you finish on the far side, just wondering why you don't do the whole cut that way. Thanks.
Great video as always. I had a question about your rabbeting technique too. Is there a reason you don’t turn the piece vertically and cut the waste out with what would be the second cut? I think of you as someone who is always looking to be efficient. In the end I know it really doesn’t matter. There are many paths available to us. Thanks.
Dear Sir, You may or may not be aware of the C&C Music Factory sticker on your C&C Machine. This outrageous jibe has made me KrisKross to the point where I am JumpJumping mad. MarkyMark my words, this form of horrendous punsmanship is a Poison to the common man. Please refrain from such MillingVanilli jokes in the future.
Love the apple box! I have a challenge for you! What can you make with all the cutoffs from the botched finger joints? And............go!!! Also, really dig that you added your fail to the video!
Love the build, but that Design Crowd thing is problematic. Would you build something for free in the hopes that someone would choose to maybe py you for your time and effort? Especially when they are basically bidding out your work against other creators for the lowest price. That devalues your work and effort as a maker.
Awesome video!! When I saw the finger joinery issue, I’ve been there but not as many but still could feel the pain. But awesome save looks sweet with the dowels. Take it easy
The first time I heard the term 'apple box', I was on a set filming a commercial, and when the director called for one, I thought it was some high-tech film equipment that was going to come out. I had to chuckle when the guy brought out an actual box. This turned out great, and thanks for including that the finger joints didn't work out. We've had to do redesigns mid-project so many times, so we can relate. Looks like it is working out very well with Camera Dan!
Super classy-looking box! And it was cool to get the behind-the-scenes look at the original plan and how you adapted it when it didn't go perfectly at first. It turned out great! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That is one beautiful and strong storage box. Not gunna lie, kinda broke my heart to see all those finger joints being cut off! 9:13 but, we all have an oops occasionally!
Did the piece shrink in width between 1.06 and 1.07? and how come you didn't use a dado blade at 2.00? Only joking David, I watch too much of your Instagram stories! Seriously though, this project came out really nice - I love the contrast between the walnut and hickory and the videography and shots were beautiful! Real cinematic feel :)

Hey Dave, you should upload to BitChute too, many people are ditching censorTube. Also, are you going to JeepFest this weekend? KC and the Sunshine Band is headlining tonight. Shake that booty!
You're project and video are great, blah blah blah (It always is by the way but that's not the point of this comment) How about that Tenacious D poster in the background though? Good stuff my man!
Hi David. I know I should just google it, but what makes a flat bottom grind blade different from a regular blade? I liked that quick cut in the beginning of “next I have to joint, cut a parallel edge, and glue up”
It's a great build as always but next please next time choose your sponsors more carefully. Companies like Design Crowd really devalue the work of creative individuals.
A shot you need to get next time, right after a clean shave, would be to get a reflection from your head then to the workpiece. Wax that head first man. Build is looking good. Great job camera man Dan/dameracan/cameradan
Wow, Camera Dan really earning his keep on this one. Also, nice work on one upping Jimmy; he only cut off one finger on the table saw. You cut off hundreds.
did you think about embedding some strong magnets to hold the draw closed when moving or transporting to box. A simple and somewhat hidden way of keeping it closed when you want it to be??
"let that dry for about an hour" lol. David I notice you use brushes to spread your wood glue in most videos. Do you wind up throwing those out after each use or are you able to clean them off to use again?
Please talk about he little rabbeting plane you used to clean up the rabbet joint. Don't think you have ever mentioned that before, and a lot of people don't know what they are.
U know when he said jointer it reminded me of yesterday...so we were in shop class and a kid was messing around the jointer and one of his friends cut it on and took like half of his thumb off
Ran into a problem the last time I did dowel joints, the dowel would not fit in same sized hole. I had to sand the dowel down a bit. Did you run into this problem?
