In this video, we are making a touchmark stamp for blacksmithing out of a piece of rebar. First, we flattend the end of the rebar and made sure it was able to be hardened. Then we forged the sides flat and sanded them straight. Then we filed the face of the stamp flat before attaching our symbol. Then the shape was filed using various files. The touchmark stamp was then hardened and tempered before using it. Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed the video, make sure to subscribe to the channel to see more!

Hi. Nice video, an good explantion in a calm way. I appreciate it. But one hint. Filing would be much easier und much more precise, if you would grasp the file in the way, i learned it. If you are right handed, right hand at the handle and left hand at the tip of the file. Than file with very low force. My teacher sayed, don't press to mess.

I appreciate the video. I was wanting to use Japanese characters for a touchmark, yeah I don’t think I will do that for my first try😂

Very cool! Tip: lift the file on the back stroke. Files only cut in one direction and you'll only dull the file teeth if you drag it back.

If you ever want to make a different touch mark and you use more letters than anything else the next time I’d recommend upsetting the metal you’re using so you have a larger surface to work with. It might take a little longer but if you plan on using it for a long time it’s probably worth the effort, at least that’s what I’d do lol

Why is it different than your emblem for your channel?
@BurningOakForge
@BurningOakForge 2 года назад
It’s close but not exact. Lol We used hand files and got as close as we could to the design. Been thinking about upgrading to something a bit cleaner so the emblem really shows.

@@BurningOakForge you've got a straight line coming out of the bottom of your bottom x that could easily have been removed with a file or your chisel..

Why you are heat treating a rebar?
@cae2487
@cae2487 3 года назад
Initially he did it to find out if that chunk of rebar is hardenable...it was, so he decided to show the world how to make a cheap touchmark. Then it was heat treated after the touch mark was made so that it would be durable and could be used on multitude of future projects.

You could have drilled the corners with a # 50 drill bit & grind a lot of the area away.
