Making A Tree Branch Ring with Turquoise: A Silversmithing Tutorial

This tutorial shows how to create a whimsical and fun type of ring with an organic tree branch style. This particular piece features a small abstract asymmetric turquoise cabochon. I would categorize this as a beginner project. The materials I used were: 6 gauge sterling half round wire, 14 gauge sterling round wire, and 16 gauge sterling round wire. As always, I am using Hard silver sheet solder, and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful? Scroll down for information on my new Patreon!

I have often wondered how people created this organic type of design. thnx for sharing your process. I like the organic appearance & luv texture in jewelery. I don't like a lot of frou-frou in designs so this is food for thought!

I love the organic look of this ring. It's a perfect style for stones that are irregular in shape, it's hard to figure out what to do with those and sometimes they are really nice stones and you want some way to showcase it. Excellent video, Chad!

Gorgeous! I love the organic form you've managed to create. This is something I'd like to try and achieve, but in my mind I thought I would have a cast a piece of twig first in silver. I"m definitely going to give this a try. Thank you x

There is one alternative I already imagine-instead of soldering he " branches" the prongs for the setting-you did use a 6gauge wire/ so why not use a jeweler's saw and place the cut length of silver wire in a jig or vise and saw the ends in half? The 6 gauge is thick enough for that-and then you could texture the ring shank-with GRAVERS! The bark=like texture you want can be engraved into the ring -just an idea!
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Год назад
A good idea Marcos! I think you could achieve much more detailed bark-like surfaces with your suggestion, although it might take longer:). Thanks for the good comment!
