Hey y'all! You might know that I've been tufting some pillows for the next drop but I haven't actually thought of how I was going to finish them off as pillows SO I remember that we tufted this strawberry last summer! So I dug it out & tested out a couple of theories I had on how to do this. I MAYBEEEE almost broke my sewing machine in the process but OMG it was so worth it!! AHHH!! IT CAME OUT SO CUTE!!! I finally have a game plan for how to make tufted pillows now & I cant wait to do the rest!

Look up an invisible stitch/ladder stitch! It's pretty much what you did but you stitch along the fabric vs across to hide them. I used it to sew up a stuff animal I added a music box too and it worked perfectly!

You might try a zipper foot to help you get right up to the edge of the tufted part! Or I know there is a type of embroidery foot that uses a spring to kinda lightly float over the fabric, that could help achieve your “no foot” idea. Also you could iron or steam down the edges of the tufting toward the middle to get it a bit out of the way while you work. Just some untested ideas from an avid sewist! The final product looks very cute!

I’ve seen a couple of comments recommending a zipper foot, which was my suggestion too. Sewing machines have come a long way since I’ve sewn anything complicated. Maybe there’s something better but, a zipper foot would work well. Using embroidery thread to sew up the opening after stuffing, would probably be easier than yarn. You can add or remove the individual threads to get the thickness you want, making it easier to hide the seam. Your strawberry pillow is really cute!🍓 A while ago I suggested making a pillow out of one of your larger cloud pieces.. I was thinking maybe for a window seat. Someone replied that it wasn’t possible.😊 So.. you’ve done the impossible!😅 Great job!❤

So many good sewing tips already! I would say get a larger sharps(microtex) needle that can take an upholstery thread with your zipper foot right along the edge. If you include a Zipper in the backing before you put on, you can finish the whole edge flip through the zipper and then it can be stuffed or used as a pillow cover. So you can give your customers options. Though if you do use a zipper you'd have to make a stuffing bag with all the floof in it. However, you do it, it will be great and we will love it. I hope the ideas help!

There are a ton of different versions of feet attachments. You could find one that is more for embroidery or zippers that might work better. Edit: I need a pumpkin pillow in my life!!

It looks amazing!!!! An embroidery foot allows you to move around in any direction and as close or as far away as you would like. They are amazing. It is exactly what you need. Zipper foot would put pressure down on both and you still might have an issue getting close enough whereas the embroidery foot hovers over it and doesn’t push down.

You could use a zipper foot to get right up against the edge of the tufting 😄 You could also machine sew for speed and strength (but for the fraying parts 😝 ) and then take some bias tape and hand sew it around the edge to make it smooth and maybe add a touch of color or texture. This might end up as more work if you're good at hand sewing, but it might be a bit simpler to handle if not. (I have no idea as I haven't tried it)

I'm sure there are taller feeder feet for your machine - but it is necessary because it's what pulls your work through and under the needle and guides it to the back of the machine. ❤

You could use a zipper foot. I would also seal the back with interfacing instead of glue, it works for punch needle would it work with. Rugs as cessions maybe.

I love the strawberry, it is so cute! I was wondering if the pillow would be easier if you made an inner pillow out of standard strong fabric, and then make the tuffed piece into a fitted cover…

You should get a zipper foot for your sewing machine to sew closer. should also try looking up how to do ladder / invisible stitch to finish up The hole of the pillows.

for the stitches after its been stuffed use the ladder stitch, i used to make memory bears and you cant see the ladder stitch , hope this helps xx

I'm sure someone has said it already, but an invisible stitch or ladder stitch would be perfect for that closure. I've used it on fixing my throw pillows in my livingroom and a few other items including a ball gown. Idk how well it would work with yarn, but you can try that one!!

Been reading a lot about tufting and safety protocols and I thought about you and wanted to let you know that it might be good to implement an HVAC system of some kind and maybe wear a mask while tufting. I don't know if it's as bad as resin but there are soooo many fiber particles floating around from cut yarn and since you mainly do cut pile and use acrylic yarn, I think it'd be smart to invest in some PPE for it (or use what you already have from resin stuff!). I also want to implement this for myself too once I get my tufting machine working again.

A few tips from a sewist. First of all a zipper foot would get you closer to where you want to sew if you use the machine this way. Personally I would sew them wrong sides together and add a bias binding or ribbon edge to cover the raw edges. And you definitely need a foot to get your stitches to form. You need the fabric to be clamped so it can form stitches and so it doesn’t break your needle. Good luck xxx

I love the strawberry pillow! Just a brainstorm (I can't call it a suggestion because I don't know if it works lol), but can you use like a fusible fabric on the back of the tufting in place of glue? I was thinking as you were turning it right-side out, that if the glue made it stiff at all - maybe an alternative would help. Super excited to see more pillows

Ok, I just have to get in here that your jacket is amazing!!!!!! Where did you get it???? The pillow is great and I would love to have it, but my dogs think that all my stuffies are their chew toys, so I have them all put away and I would have to do the same with this pillow. It needs to be out to be seen, so I'll let others get it.

When you cut out the tufted piece I would have at least 2 inches or so of fabric around the whole piece, if that’s too much then you can always cut off the excess. Also trying a zig zag stitch might work better.

You should be able to sew without the foot however 1: The foot is part of what moves the fabric away from you, therefore leaving a stitch as it goes. (&) 2. Since there is no foot holding the fabric and thread down, it's even more important that you hold the tails of the thread while you do your first few stitches. Otherwise the thread is just going to get ripped through the machine and it won't leave a stitch behind. So as long as you hold your thread tails the first few stitches, and you manually move the fabric away from you, it should work just fine. Keep in mind if manually moving the fabric, where you move the fabric to, and how far you move it, is what will determine what your stitch looks like. The more you move it between needle dives, the longer the stitches will be. On an even easier note, as many others have said, there are many other sewing matching feet you can buy that do many different cool things. I would do some RU-vid surfing on sewing machine feet and I'm sure you'll find something that'll work great for what you need it to do.

You dont need the foot on the sewing machine. BUT you have to act as the feed dogs and move the fabric yourself. Quilters do it all the time by disengaging the feed dogs.
