See how I make probable the shortest fire piston on my Myford ML7. These fire pistons or fire syringes are an excellent project to make on the lathe as they are quite easy if you get the machining correct with good finishes. (Camera Used Sony DX-410VE)

Nice work. I'm impressed you can get enough compression with such a short stroke.

Hello Steve, Nice work as always... I was just thinking that with COVID restrictions nearly gone maybe you could make that video you promised showing the Gun Dog Training Launcher in action... Take care. Paul,,

That 10/10 MGEHR 1.5 seems to work quite well for a relatively cheap tool. I have a more expensive branded 1.5 MGEHR with 20/20 shank. I'm pretty certain your knurler body was rubbing some of the knurl off as you were traversing. Perhaps I'll give one of the banggood internal groove MGEHR tools a go after seeing how good this one works.

I had noticed something odd when watching so I went back and re-watched and you can definitely see the knurler body was taking off the knurling. Would be a simple fix. Good eye. Dale in Canada

Could that boring bar you used halfway through the video be used to cut threads?
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 3 года назад
Hi No you need a tool specifically ground for thread cutting. Regards Steve

Where are the plans? No dimensions are provided in the video.

Hi Adam, I don't ever use plans as I make things up as I go along.

@@SteveJordan Alright, 1.What was the diameter and depth of the hole? 2. What were the O-ring specs? 3. Did you hand feed the last part of the boring bar? 4. What is the diameter of the piston? I made one, but it was about 3.5" deep and about .3906 diameter then lapped with fine timesaver compound with a brass lap. The bottom of the hole was the point of the drill. I'm impressed with amount of stickout on that boring bar. Just like you found the surface finish and double O-ring with chapstick as lube was critical to success.

Hi Adam, I did hand feed the boring bar to the end of the hole, which was finished with a flat bottom drill. The flat bottom drill does not cut the diameter of the hole, just the bottom face of the bore, so it is dead flat with no indent. I will measure mine up and give some dimensions this week. When I get one back from my son to measure. He uses them for his bushcraft teaching. I will measure the o/rings I use. I do everything by feel and don't normally take measurements. If a piston is too tight when the o/rings are fitted, I just take them out and skim a bit more from the bottom of the groove until I get it right. That's why I haven't any measurements to hand. Regards Steve
