Making a VIRUS for a Game Jam (and almost winning)

...Yeah... I was hoping the title would be slightly less misleading. I think I'd be a lot more interested in somehow pulling off a real (well, real but not malicious) virus as a "game" than I'd be in yet-another-meta-game. I still might watch this at some point because I like hearing people's gamejam stories, but I'm not interested enough right now

If you remember where the enemy spawners are, you can shoot them while they're off-screen. Even if you don't remember exactly where they are, you can tell when you're hitting them because the screen shakes and sometimes makes noise. If you're far enough away, they won't spawn enemies. Continue to do this until you hear the sound that indicates the enemy spawner has died. You can tell when all of the cores in a room are gone because DAVE will start talking again. The game goes from a game of fast dodging skill into a slower game of patience. Whether you believe it or not, I think the only time it doesn't work is in the fight at the very beginning of the level, because you start the game portion too close to them already, but those enemies don't shoot.

It's a funny idea but there are so many reasons it would be a terrible idea to implement. Anything that acts like an actual virus at all is going to get detected by actual AV, and then removed from the game jam. Plus it's way too easy for a "non-dangerous" virus to actually break something.
