On Today’s episode I make A Walkingstick for a friend. He told me he was going on a spiritual Journey, and he is retracing his roots. I will be meeting him in the desert, and he will begin his journey there. this got me thinking, I had just pruned a mesquite tree that his brother had planted many years ago, what a better way to start his journey of retracing his roots then with the branch of a tree that his brother had planted and grown and then, I had transformed into a walking stick that he may use on Adventures and always have his brother and I with him in spirit! I hope you find the video entertaining and as always, thanks for watching😎

I make walking sticks and canes for a hobby. I use side grinders with a steel Kutz all extreme disc to remove the bark and shape the stick. They last a long long time. Next, I change side grinders to my flap disc with 40 grit. I smooth is out as best I can. Finally, I switch to the Dewalt finishing sander with 60 grit paper. I do not like stain as I feel it hides the grain. In some cases, depending on the wood, I may lightly burn the wood to make the grain pop. Then I put a coat of tung oil cut 50% with mineral spirits. I let it dry and repeat 4 or 5 times. Next, I switch to polyurethan cut 50%. Another 3 coats. Finally, I use poly in a spray can for the finish. By the way. In between every coat of tung oil or poly, I rub with steel wool. This makes the finish smooth as a baby's ass.

Hey JR! Thanks for checking out the video and taking time to make a comment. It sounds like you have quite the process, and I bet those sticks look really awesome. You should make a video and post it. It would really be cool to check out the process and the finished product.

@ocotillooutlaws4101
@ocotillooutlaws4101 Год назад
Hey Ed ! Thanks for watching 😎 always after. Good clean wood without stains or oils is the best way to achieve a good result. The wood needs to be able to absorb the conductive solution that you apply. Just finished another stick and saw your message! I hope this answers your question. @ocotillooutlaws4101 9 месяцев назад
Hey Russ! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment, that means a lot 😎 I totally agree with you on the safety factor... Even with electrical experience, a rubber floor mat, double rated gloves it is dangerous. One error and the outcome is not desirable. The probes I use are double insulated and have a plexiglass guard. Even after that it is a risk. I will heed your advise and definitely always be careful. Thanks again! ☮

@ocotillooutlaws4101

Hey William! Thanks for your question, it’s a combination of moving the probes and placing the solution only where you want it to burn 🔥 hope that answered your question. Post back and let me know if that works for you.

@ocotillooutlaws4101
@ocotillooutlaws4101 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question/comment. I Made this video to share the story and the process not necessarily the equipment I used. this hobby isn’t for everyone as it’s very dangerous. If you make one mistake it could be deadly, but since you asked I use a 15,000 V neon sign transformer with insulated probes controlled by a foot pedal. I also use high-voltage insulated gloves with a pair of rubber gloves underneath that. The foot pedal energizes the transformer and also is a safety feature in the instance of an accident so that it will stop the current when your foot is off the pedal. As I stated, in the video, this hobby is not recommended for just anyone it is dangerous and people do die every year using these devices. I hope this answers your question 😎 thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

Hola amigaso! Gracias por la pregunta! Uso bicarbonato de sodio y agua. Esta solución hace que la superficie de la madera sea... Utilizo 15.000 voltios para quemar patrones de rayos en la madera. I get a very BigstackD vibe from this channel, the difference of course is that you talk and that you aren't melting steel. Edit: How the hell are you making those burn marks move through the wood without moving your woodburner? Its like red lightning.
@ocotillooutlaws4101
@ocotillooutlaws4101 Год назад
I will have to check that channel out melting stuff is cool! Thanks for your comments and taking the time to watch 😎 I use a foot pedal to control the voltage. Yes, it is exactly like lightning and just as deadly, it is variable and about 15,000 volts.

Hey Jennifer, Thanks for taking the time to watch! Yes, unfortunately people do die while making this type of art. Working with electricity is always dangerous just like mountain climbing even with all the safety equipment experience and precautions accidents happen. This type of art is not for people that don't have a working understanding and experience of working with high voltage. You are in fact holding lighting in your hands on a small scale. 🤙☮

Having an accident or making a mistake will kill you. Even with experience doing this is dangerous and people die every year using these devices. It's like mountain climbing even with all the safety equipment people still fall and die.
