Nice Job! Vevor sent me a planer too. I thought they only made vinyl cutting printers. I guess their marketing strategy now is to get us to use their planer so our viewers become more familiar with the name.

@jerryseinfeld6283

I think you're probably right. The company that sent it to us for material testing was in Brazil. The wood was super resinous and they were having a hard time getting any paint or stain to finish it. When we dried the wood in a kiln it secreted this thick black resin all over the bottom of the kiln.

Very interesting and creative use of the biscuit joiner! Well done! A beautiful box you made there. The contrasting colors work well. Perhaps the dark wood is walnut, though I wouldn't expect that on a typical construction site. Watching the end of your video, may I suggest getting either an Oneida Dust Deputy or a Dustopper HD12A. Either of these will give your shop vacuum & filter a much longer life.

Always amaze me with your brilliant unique ideas. I have used a similar method to splines using a biscuit joiner. Although using jointer as a slide with biscuit stops is a great idea as well as using it for pulls. Keep up the great work. I’d rather see fewer videos with new ideas than weekly videos of usual builds. Hope these plans are on your website.

Josh, the bottom looks good. I like the use of the biscuit joiner for the corners of the box. The bottom does indeed look like it might have been stitched. I think a depth stop of some sort woudl help get the correct size that you want. It would be something you would have to mess around with. Super cool box and came out great!

Nice video,Josh! The only thing that I think you might do to improve the shop is to add a cyclone separator between the dust collection and the shop-vac. It really saves on those filters. Overall, I am impressed with your crafty approach to gift box making.

Nice watching your videos, The wood your Brother gifted you I think is Ipe from the Brazillian Rain Forest. At least it looks like it, and the fact you said it was really dense. I used to lay Hardwood floors and we had some jobs using that. One board seems like a cinder block, lol.

Can I please have an amazing button 💎 instead of just a like button👍🏼? I had no idea my biscuit joiner was so versital. The box itself is fantastic and beautiful. The planer shavings as packing material also great. Imaging using ceday shavings! I do have 2 questions. 1) What was the final thickness of the veneer? 2) Were you able to tune the snipe out of the thickness planer? Thanks
@JoshWrightWoodworking
@JoshWrightWoodworking 2 года назад
Thank you for the kind words! 1) I think the final thickness of the veneer was just over a 1/16". 2)if I'm really careful I can get very little snipe but I've never really been able to completely eliminate snipe with any planner I've used. I ussually just leave the peice a little long before planning so I can cut off the snipe afterwards.

@JoshWrightWoodworking

Yeah, its hard to tell from the video but Someone in the comments suggested Ipe aka Brazilian walnut and that seems to be the most likely answer.
@ryanmcewen415
@ryanmcewen415 Год назад
@@JoshWrightWoodworking I have a bunch of Brazilian Walnut, Black Walnut as well as the regular kind that is lighter in colour. Honestly. What you have could be either of the darker varieties.. Every tree will have its own shade. Depending on the nutrients and weather it was given. That's the beauty of wood. No two trees are quite the same.

I like the inventive use of the biscuit joiner. But non traditional uses of a tool can add some no traditional hazards. Someone doing this should think through what could go wrong and devise their own plan for mitigating the risks.
