Our bucket of hook of the week material has a piece of angle iron left in the bottom. Instead of making one hook from angle iron, lets make 8 different hooks

Hi, I actually manufacture steel door parts, mass producing them, I've noticed now I have competitors who just copied me, most likely getting it made in China. My answer to that was, I'm going to figure out how to go from a machine made mass produced part to a hand made forged part instead, we're even starting to do our own traditional black smith finish. It was quite the learning curve because I knew nothing about blacksmithing, I started watching this channel, learned so much ..... thanks for sharing !!!! We literally just launched our new hand made hardware line, started from 0, with no experience at all, slowly we are building a new business, which is very exciting ! The thing that fascinates me, blacksmithing has been around for thousands of years, it almost died out, but has surged back. As a business man, if you can produce a well made hand crafted product, people love that, each product is unique, I'm here to say if you are going to have a business, you need to be different, if you don't, you have a good product easily copied, sooner or latter, someone will have it made in China, you won't be able to compete anymore. The interesting part is folks our hardware is going on very high end new modern style architecture, the architects are really liking what we are doing .... so blacksmithing is very relevant in the modern world. I 100% learned my skills watching gentleman like Mr. Black Bear, hopefully I will get an opportunity to pay it forward as well. I also discovered small steel hardware pieces are perfect for an online shipping business, also a perfect home business ...... blacksmithing is awesome!

I really like when you do content that I can practice in my basic forge at home. I have a scrap piece of angle iron that might make 3 or 4 hooks similar to these so I might try it next week! Please don't ever come to the end of the hook of the week series, I would be heartbroken if it ever stopped! For me it teaches me a lot more than content by youtubers who are experienced blade or swordsmiths as it shows techniques that I can understand and attempt to recreate at home. That's not to say that I don't follow creators who make that kind of content, I do, and enjoy it but what you show me is more relevant to me because someday I might be able to do the things you do if I practice enough.

Hi John, long time subscriber here. Really enjoy your hook of the week series. A few suggestions you may or may not have heard. If you have tool steel in those buckets, some hooks to get work done. Like drag hooks. The kind you pound into a tree you cut down, hook a chain up and pull it out with your tractor or truck. Also hooks for things like wenches, block & tackle, with pin and with swivel, for lifting or pulling heavy loads. After all most of us Smith's have allot of hard work to do and we can make at of our own tools and hardware. Hope you like the suggestion.

@@BlackBearForge yeah, some auger bit for a brace would be super informative and useful. It is dang hard to fond a full set around where I live. Always singles or rusted beyond repair to have the size wanted. Would you make the whole thing out of tool steel? Or would you forge weld a good cutting edge steel to the end and sharpen it up real nice? Also, how to make the lead-screw for it? Could be an awesome set of bits from 1/16 to 1 inch by 16ths. Would love to see how to twist the flat shank evenly for the corkscrew effect wood augers bits have.

I love the hook that you used the vice as your bending jig. There are so many ideas in this video, I think I need to play with some angle iron and I've got some small offcuts from some huge sections of angle iron that could make some interesting 🤔 At the begging or the video I noticed that you've been learning how to cut steel the way This Old Tony does it.
