That looks like pine to me is that not a hardwood? I don't know why I'm beginning to see all your archery posts but some of them are quite interesting especially that strange bow with multiple tips
it looks like yew wood, most common wood for English longbow. yes the core is used on the inside of the bow, the belly, because it compresses very well. the lightwood is on the outside of the bow because its much more flexible and stretches well. hope that helps
