That rear motor mount I have the exact same one on my 79 iron head. That’s funny!!! that wiring harness is completely stock and totally not butchered. The only reason I went with a bolt on hardtail kit for my brother 71 ironhead is so I could keep the brake drum and brake linkage all intact I didn’t want to switch over to a juice brake and disc wich you would have to with the weld on hardtail kit, my 79 already had juice brakes, so that’s why I did the weld on kit with that ironhead!!!!
Wooot, snowy days are for wrenching! The ring gap is different for the top and bottom ring, but that looks like maybe the top lost its spring. I would investigate 🧐 Cheers to Ironheads and wrenching and choppers🤘😁🤘
Thanks Sally. Ironheads are a whole new ballgame for me. I could always look at a manual lol but I would rather hear from you guys that already know this stuff. Sometimes I have trouble comprehending them damn books. Thanks for the information. Stay warm out there
My uncle completely rebuilt his iron head and kept all the parts original and then he sold it cause can't get parts for iron heads anymore. That bike was sharp when he got done with it. It was a kick start only bike.
Man... You hit me in the feelings when you was talking about Big Sexy, RIP Brother, my mentor was like a second dad to me, and he loved to build them sporties! Shovel head guru as well, There's not a day goes by when I'm wrenching that I wish I could call him up! We'll all ride together again someday! Much Blessings Bro!
Reqr head bolts to the top tube with a mount/bracket. Front head bolts onto front or frame under the neck casting with a mount/bracket. From what I remember.
Hey, return line going to the bottom of the oil tank will have an inner tube inside the tank, going all the way up to the top of the tank and oil comes out like a fountain.
This week was the first time I walked Into the garage and seen this 7k dollar heater I had installed and not felt regret lol. They fill our tanks at the main building at the track and I had him quote me a heater for my personal garage. He said. Ahh 2-3k with a tank installed. After they installed it sent me a bill for $6,800. Talking about “well rates go up in winter”. I Fkn ordered this shit in June. Yall the ones waited to winter to instal it Brother if you need any ironhead parts I have totes and totes of shit. I’m try and head down that way see your painter here in a month or so. I have ironhead stuff I haven’t even went though. Lots of old still in the boxes NOS stuff
Harbor freight sells these cans ya fill with fluid and pressure with air. Parts still will order you brake clean around $40 for a five gallon bucket. I use to buy it 80$ a case. But using that pressurized can makes that shit last forever. Think it’s like 30$ for the can. Freaking love that thing lol
i miss big sexy, he had a silver and blue electra glide that i rode on the back of pretty much all the way to wisconsin cause daddy had that vstar with a god awful back seat on it. i remember that iron head you and sexy built when i was probably 10-11 years old, it had that blue amf tank on it. i gotta find the picture of me sittting on it
I dig the videos man! Youve got some good hands! I would love to hear some sit down stories though. Im sure after a million miles you have a few! Cheers brother
The return goes in the bottom. But has a pipe on the inside of the tank so it dumps out of the top. The vent and the return both have those inner pipes I always thought the kick start only bikes had a different oil bag also?
Ring end gaps should be the same, they changed the amount 3 or 4 time through the years (.010" 59-69 / 79-82, .015" 70-78, .008" 83-85). You can check manual for right limits on specs. Got a little something for ya in Fridays video coming up. Made a mistake on where you are at but corrected it in the description. Thanks for the mention again. Moving up and getting to 1000 slowly but surely. You are growing quickly!! Good for you!!
@@itsmytimeletsgo yea I’m just assuming lol. I have noticed in the manuals like you say they vary. I have re top end a ton of dirt bikes. Never done one of these old sporsters yet. Just trying learn all I can lol. When ya can’t afford a engine builder you have no choice but to learn
Is that a lock lugnut on the hole on top of the cam cover? Idk if its 4 the Speedo cable or for a mag? I've seen both. What's it a 77? I never seen a rear cylinder motor mount like that...🤷 Definitely had a starter at sum point. When u take the primary cover off look to see if there's a Bendix gear around the clutch basket...👍
Hippie. Hey Buddy. Was watching Slicks channel and he showed a poster you sent him. Said you was going to give 500 to people. I know I'll fall in that range somewhere. How do I get one for my shop.
Man he was bullshiting lol. He was paying me back for wearing his shirt backwards 🤣🤣🤣 I only made 1 banner. I sent it to him because he has done a lot for me, but I will get some more made and give them away as prizes
