On this particular bed, they are placed slightly to the left at the head end of the bed. To protect the bed linens from secretions from the mouth (patients recovering from anaesthesia are placed on slightly left lateral - recovery position) as patient recovers from anaesthesia.

Do envelope corner at the foot end of the counterpane.

Please when you do the envelope corner with the counterpane how do you achieve the pie shape

An operation bed is made to receive patients from theatre. Most of such patients come while under general anaesthesia. Hence they are placed in a left lateral (recovery) position, so that while they recover from the G.A. fluids will drain from the mouth to prevent aspiration. So the dressing mackintosh and towel is placed on the top end of the bed towards the left (to place the patient's head on it) to prevent secretions from soiling the bed.

Nursing as practiced in Ghana was adopted from the western world (UK). They need to keep their beds warm due to the cold weather, so that tradition is still thought in school (though not done in actual in practice in Ghana as the weather is already warm).

​@@angelaquaye2060Moreso, most often, surgical theatres have air- conditioners which keep the theatre at low(cool) temperatures. Assessing the fact that majority of surgical procedures require clients to be half naked( in gowns) if not entirely naked, it is rational to anticipate that healthcare providers might record low body temperature of the post- op client (hypothermia). Hence, the hot water bottle is to keep him/ her warm to effect body temperature within normal range.

For their purposes, operation bed is made to receive post op patients into the ward while admission bed is made to receive new patients into the ward (someone admitted through OPD or any form of trans-in that is not post surgery) For their make: operation bed is made with only one blanket (to keep patient warm after surgery) while admission bed is made with 2 blankets (one for warmth and one for bed bath - when necessary) Also admission bed has a long mackintosh just after the draw sheet (to facilitate bathing the newly admitted patient) but the operation bed doesn't have any long mackintosh on it. Operation bed has compulsory accessories to be added, admission bed has few compulsory accessories with most being 'when necessary' Operation bed, a pillow 'must' be on the chair, admission bed, a pillow is not mentioned in the task. Operation bed has dressing mackintosh and dressing towel at the top left(to protect the bed from oral secretions while patient hasn't recovered from anaesthesia yet). There are other differences but I hope the above helps to clarify things for u. Thanks.

Admission bed uses 2 blankets while operation bed uses only one.

Its only in changing of bottom sheet that you will explain procedure, the rest of the bed making tasks you won't explain procedure since there is no patient on the bed.

You will send a pillow but during the steps u will place the pillow on a chair. The essence is that when patient is fully recovered from anaesthesia he/she can then be given the pillow.
