This will be a 101” wooden airplane propeller going on a full scale SE5 with a 200 HP Chevy engine and a 1.85 reduction gear on it. Next video will be the sanding work! 😁
Is that machine called a saw lathe? I watched you on other channels and I'm fascinated with this machine. I saw something like it in a gun stock factory as a kid on a boy scout tour near Osceola, maybe close to Truman dam. I don't recall the name of the factory. They had metal blanks that a roller traced out. It was so cool. Anyway, love your woodworking, love airplanes. Watching this on my day off. 😂
Hello Alaina, if the propeller is going to have a 1.85 to 1 reduction, what is the optimum speed for the Chevy engine to run at in order to keep the propeller rotating at the must efficient speed ? For example a continental engine usually runs at about 2100 optimum, what will this chevy engine be running at? A 200 HP engine should be able to pull a pretty good load. Assuming the prop is to maintain approximately 2100 are you speeding the engine above that, or slowing the engine below that? It doesn't seem like a 200 HP engine would need to be speeding above 2100 unless it is a two stroke which I doubt since it is Chevy. Perhaps it is pulling a larger load than it would be able and so needs the higher RPM added to the engine for power, but won't this mean a shorter engine life, unless it is a smaller overhead cam engine, which would be "kind" of ok running at above 3885 for extended periods ? I realize that a prop that large will take a lot of HP to turn it , but has the plane builder given up engine life in order to run a smaller engine at a higher RPM, with a reduction in order to keep the propeller at a high enough speed ? Just a thought. Keep that pretty smile coming our way. 2100a
There's something slightly soothing and hypnotic about watching machines do something repetitively. This one has a nice wave like motion although it's unavoidably a bit shrill. I'd still be standing there watching, slightly slack jawed! :D
I have finally watched all of your videos and all I can say is, AMAZING! Sooo disappointed that anyone could dislike any of these. Alaina, ignore the haters and trolls.
