Hi, thks for the vid. I just got a mpd226. It's connected to pro tools. I'll I get is bells and whistles!! I'm using a rock kit in xpand2. Do you know if this works with xpand2? Do I need to make a preset or template? thanks
Does NOTE REPEAT work with pro tools if activated from the Akai? Great tutorial. I have Maschine and for 6 years can’t figure out how on earth to use it this way in PT. (There was away posted in a forum years back but it’s partially deleted now and EXTREMELY complicated). Might pick up one of these units thanks to your review, far simpler than adapting the Maschine which understandably is it’s own system by design.
Hi Daniel, they can be MIDI mapped to control knobs in the plugin so you can perform and record hands-on adjustments of things like attack and decay or filter, etc. Whatever you want to control in real time. They send MIDI Continuous Controller messages. The plugins usually have a way of assigning the knobs - something like a right click on the plugin knob and then turn the MPD knob and it will connect. It works in different ways depending on the DAW. Thanks for watching the video and I'm glad it was helpful - all the best to you!
Great but as the user's manual is only 2 pages long do you know if there is a good tutorial in English where the settings from installing the soft to making a beat are clearly explained ?
Jim, I use Toontrack's Superior Drummer 3. I can't get the MPD218 to output any midi signal to the program at all. The midi meter shows input from the pad on the instrument track I made so how to I trigger the SD3 program because putting it in Inserts does not work. I can't figure out which of 16 midi channels it broadcasts on as I have tried each one, one at a time and none of them make SD3 make any connection.
Sorry Tom, but I don't know SD3. It's probably some kind of mismatch between the MIDI note that the pad is sending and the note that the specific sample is assigned to in the sofware. Also I usually set the software to receive on "any" channel so I don't have to sweat what channel the controller is set to. Sorry to respond so late, I really appreciate you watching and trying to be in touch. My bad!
Sorry I didn't see this earlier...The Akai pad sends out MIDI notes that will play any software synth - it can play any drum instrument that is set up to the General MIDI drum instrument map. It also can play any synth or sampler because each pad is like a keyboard key. - Thank you for commenting and again, I'm sorry to take so long to reply.
